Cannot move ending point of overlapping clip (can't edit crossfade)
Repro:
- Put any clip on the timeline
- Set the playhead to anywhere in the middle
- Split the clip
- Make sure Automatic Crossfades is on
- Move the clips so they overlap each other, thus a crossfade is made

Now i can edit the second clip's starting point, but not the first clip's ending point. Cursor can change to "Trim event start" but not to "Trim event end". I can select the first clip, so the End trim handle shows up correctly, but i cannot grab it, because clicking it selects the second clip.

Please help, it is a nightmare editing like this, and i love Vegas (MSP) so much. Thank you.

same here .
using Cross Fade Mouse Mode , only clip on the Right , cross fade handle is selectable .

i usually keep Auto Cross Fade OFF .
then i manually set the cross fades , before i overlap them .

Yeah, this is something that I've been struggling with too.
Here's a gif of a solution that I've literally just come up with because of this thread, so this is going to help me loads too xD

(The cursor is a bit offset and missing its white outling because Gyazo is a mental case)

But the basis for this is; when you zoom out far enough, the margain for your cursor to move the edges doesn't shrink, while the clips do, which means if you put your cursor close to the starting edge of the second clip, your cursor should be able to grab the ending edge of the first clip.

Would love to know if this helped :)

Thanks for the idea! Unfortunately, for my editing methods or customs it is way too slow. I mean, if you know that your crossfade will be perfect for the first shot, it's fine. But even with automatic crossfades turned off, you can't edit the ending point of the first clip. Or i just missed someting.

Hey, this is an amazing hack. :) It works in lots of cases, but not when the crossfade is too long. Then you must zoom out a lot, and you lose precision. Unfortunately you can't zoom in and out while holding the trim.

I've developed some workaround methods in the meantime:

Method 1:
- Optional: Set the playhead cursor to the start of the crossfade.
- Ctrl-alt-drag the whole crossfade to set the endpoint.
- Trim the start of the second clip (back to memorized cursor position).

Method 2 (Got the idea from here[www.moviestudiozen.com]):
- Click the first clip.
- Press numeric 9 to enter edge-trim mode and work with the clip end. (Red line appears.)
- Use F3/F9 to adjust the end position.
- Alternatively, use Ctrl-shift-mousewheel to adjust the end position.
- (Click anywhere to exit the edge-trim mode.)

Method 3:
- Right-click on the track header on the left
- Activate "Expand track layers" mode. This will work on video tracks only.

I'm not happy about neither, though.

hmmm ,. i guess i usually don't overlap clips .
i usually "butt up" 2 clips , then i just Left clip fade out , right clip fade in .
the two ends are already cut to where i need them .

that's why i had to try what you said , kuz it surprised me .
