- There are more enemies in co-op
- They have far more health, so much that lucy (the fire wiz) attacks seem like nothing, and melee characters just get overwhelmed
- We have trouble killing even the most basic mobs. The little snakes take like 10+ hits to kill, this is level 8-9 of the damage upgrade and level 6 of the critical% upgrade.
- There is like 10% chance we survive when purple enemies start spawning. The fast ones hit super hard, take 10+ hits to kill and are very difficult to dodge.
Now we have unlocked Joey, who's a complete joke. He takes like 1 second to wind his attack, which is way more than enough for any enemy to close in to hit him, meaning you have to guess the timing and positioning of them. Even then, he takes like 5 hits to kill anything, and also dies in a few hits, no chance against a group of enemies.
I wanted so much to like this game, but now I'm feeling only frustration and regret.
If anything, I wouldn't add a difficulty slider... I'd readjust early-game difficulty to ease players into things more. ATM the difficulty curve is rather steep early on, and gets a LOT easier as you get further in, which is kind of backwards, right? I shouldn't be breazing through World 3 with only two or three deaths(mostly the product of bad RNG) when 1-2 took me an order of magnitude greater in tries.
Another possibility: start with higher stats? A lot of the problem just stems from encounters becoming stat-checks when you have to divide your attention. It's not HARD to kite a bunch of melee mobs while avoiding a few ranged mob attacks(until they start using CC walls...but that's okay), the issue comes when they all refuse to die because you can only do chip damage, because the health-drops are relatively rare. Also make XP come in faster for underleveled characters(maybe compare to level average?) to achieve a similar effect there.
I love this game tons, and I think it's Co-Op mode is fun as hell once you get going, but it does have it's fair share of balance issues. (on that note, please make Lucy good in general, and make Apan better solo! Everyone else is fine but they need some TLC <3 )
