I hate the idea of anything being locked out for future players.
This is why I liked Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. The developers released the exclusive Kickstarter bonus as a $10.00 DLC item. I bought the game and all the DLC in a heartbeat because I knew I wouldn't feel left out for getting to the party late.
It might seem small, but it's pretty demoralizing to not be able to enjoy all the content of a game simply due to the fact that I did not hear about a great game via some of my friends or some random coworker banter.
+1
They'll release it as DLC, don't worry.
They probably just mean that kickstarters get exclusive access to a DLC character ahead of schedule. Whine about it when you own & Have played the game.
It's the same as Warframe, and I'm happy the developers didn't bend over to the screaming babies for that game, that the Founder Exclusives remained exclusive, other developers of course bend and that's what many here seem to hope happens except for those who Paid for said exclusives. I backed it for the very reason of wanting something Exclusive to show off how I supported the game from the start. Others are just angry that they'd be jealous to the point of making unjustifiable demands that they be let in the Kickstarter club when they didn't Kickstart the game.
Demanding Exclusive Content that you didn't earn, buy, or acquire, be given to you under the guise of 'or else' is always pathetic.
Kickstarter Backers get Exclusive Gears (Alternate skins for characters), Divine Relics and, if enough was paid, the Exclusive Character.
I'm sure is will cost money if they release it. Kickstarter exclusives were a nice idea back then, but they really don't work out in practice. Most developers usually find a middle ground between the backers and the new customers. It's not an issue when it's purely cosmetic, but when it's gameplay related it definitely becomes unfair to new supporters.
Costing money isn't the point. It's about Customer Loyalty and keeping promises, a company that can't keep their promises aren't a good one. Pandering to demands, to break promises, all just to ensure a handful of people crying for something get what they want? Saying the ends justifies the means even if it's a broken promises to their original customers is flimsy and selfish.
But as it would be obvious, I disagree completely, it's not 'Unfair' and how you argue your point is still selfish. You claim it 'Unfairness of not being given everything', but you seem to not care about the Unfairness that it would create towards the Kickstarter backers, for them to lose Exclusive Content. You don't care if it's unfair to us if we lose what was promised to us, but only concern yourself with what you feel is unfair to You - and everyone in the way be damned, Eh?
What has to be understood is that of the 6 playable characters, all of them are the Bergson family members. The 7th 'Family Friend' would not exist in this game today if they never went to Kickstarter. The 7th Character being exclusive is because they shoehorned him to fit the story (Probably in vague ways) so as to entice Kickstarter sales. Canon-wise to the lore and story of the game, the 7th character probably doesn't exist, besides Gameplay/Combat and nothing else.
If one day they release this character as DLC i will gladly come back.
Some things I'm reading in this thread actually hurt my brain. You are OK with paying $10 (1/3rd) the price of the game, for 1 character?!?!?
People like you are why things are so messed up and why devs get away with pulling content out of their games and offering day 1 DLC.
I think 10 dollars was arbitrary number as an example, feel like you might be wasting your energy on what was not intended as fact.
Who gives a ♥♥♥♥. Let's be real here, the only reason you all got it because you heard about it via kickstarter. The only reason you're defending a gatekeeping practice is because you feel attacked.."BUT THEY SAID EXCLUSIVE!" It still is, you don't have to put anymore money towards the game and get the content immediately. That's exclusive. You say you want to support the developers but at the same time deny them ability to create more revenue for another game because of the mentality "It's mine not yours!".
I dislike that very much and I don't know enough about these devs for this specific game to know for sure. However, If they made this exclusive promise and stick to their guns and keep that character exclusive, My respect for t hem will be much higher than if they made that character available for everyone to acquire if it was originally marketed to be exclusive. I probably won't buy their game if they make the exclusive character available without getting majority support from the backers.
