Known issues - FAQ
Here we will list all errors reported by people regarding ASA: Remastered Edition.
Feel free to post your own problems below, and we will try to help you. If we don't reply or if we don't see your message, you can wait for help from the Steam community, or get in touch with us through The Icehouse website (www.theicehouse.fr). You can also post a message on the forums of Visionaire Studio (the tool/engine used to develop this game). Basically the game should run "as is".

You can often find a beginning of answer to your problem by reading the "messages.log" file automatically generated by the game when you launch it. This file should be in:
C:\Users\[your_username]\AppData\Local\Simon Says Play\ASA Remastered
You can open it with Notepad.

The Visionaire Studio engine used to develop ASA Remastered Edition has been used in the past to create several famous adventure games such as the Deponia series. It could be a good idea to seek on the discussion threads of these games to see if someone had your problem before.

General problems:
- The game won't start correctly
- "I changed the config.ini file and now I have problems"
- Error .dll in Windows
- Where are the savegames located?
- ...

General solutions:
- Make sure you always try to run ASA as administrator
- Don't change the config.ini file unless you are 100% sure of what you are doing
- Various error messages related to DLL files should be fixed after installing the Microsoft vcredist package as administrator, provided with the game in the [redist] folder.
- Make sure ASA is not blocked by your Antivirus software
- The savegames can be found here:
C:\Users\[your_username]\AppData\Local\Simon Says Play\ASA Remastered
- update your drivers and directx (or simply run a Windows update)
- ...

Overlay trick

If you have an unexpected issue that is not really listed here (display issue, button not working, game crashing for no reason...), you can try this tip:

In Steam, right click on ASA in your library, choose properties.
In the General tab, disable the Steam overlay setting.
Try the game and see if it fixed your issue.

Critical issue with Hotspot/Button/Cursor/Savegame system

If a button or a hotspot is not working correctly (as if it was disabled), we have released a critical updated on May 15th. Please read this discussion:

Important: ASA Remastered was developped with the Visionaire Studio engine and we rely on them for technical issues. If you can really not fix your problem, you can try to explain your situation to the developers of Visionaire Studio on their forums at http://www.visionaire-studio.net

Problem:
"Le point d'entrée de procédure FlushProcessWriteBuffers est introuvable dans la bibliothèque de liaisons dynamique KERNEL32.dll"
-- not sure what the English translation could be, but it's about Kernel32.dll --
-- the game won't start --
-- case detected on Windows XP --

Solution:
Try renaming the Msvc110.dll file inside the ASA Remastered folder to Msvc110.dll.bak
Then install the vcredist package. Use the package provided with the game in the [redist] folder, or download it here:
http://www.microsoft.com/de-de/download/details.aspx?id=30679
If the package doesn't install, there is nothing we can do unfortunately.

===========================

Problem:
----- Init failed -----
Init. failed, could not load game.
There is no game file or the game file is corrupted
For more info view messages.log
------------------------
If you open the messages.log as described in the error, you can see this line:
"Error: OpenGL 2.0 not supported."
- case detected on Windows 8 --

Solution:
It seems that there is a specific problem with some older ATi or Intel video cards. What happens is that the manufacturers of these cards have not provided 100% Open GL 2.0 compatible drivers when Windows 8 released. The only solution is to try to update your video card one more time with the very latest drivers. It solved the problem for someone to force the use of Windows 7 drivers on Windows 8, but this is usually not recommended. Several people complained about this compatibility issue with other games, including famous games such as Minecraft, but this is not related to the games themselves.
You could find a beginning of answer here:

===========================

Problem:
“The program can’t start because SDL2.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.”
-- The game won't start --
-- case detected on Windows 8.1 64 bits --

Solution:
This is more likely a 32/64-bits issue with vcredist. The version of vcredist provided with ASA Remastered is a 32 bits version (x86), which proved to work very well on many 64 bits OS too, but not in your case.
You will need to download the x64 version of this package. You can find it here:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-US/download/details.aspx?id=30679
After download, install vcredist_x64.exe

Solution 2:
Download the SDL2.DLL file on internet and copy/paste it in the folder of the game.
Be careful to viruses when you download a system file.

Problem:
The game doesn't start. I have different kinds of issues.

Solution:
The game should work well on Mac. We have released an important update on May 15th which fixed files permissions in the game, and should allow the game to run fine on all compatible systems.

Game in general tends to hang up quite a bit. Interface is clunky. Sometimes have to enter the solution to a problem several times before the game takes it... example, took me about 1/2 hour of clicking to get the key out of the book. Also at the final grid (endgame) and cannot complete even though I know the coordinates are correct.. even tried a few permutations.. just doesn't work. 2015 iMac, Mavericks.

Forgive me to ask, but why did you post this message in the FAQ? Do you request some help with an issue, or is it just a personnal opinion about the game?
If you don't like the gameplay, we are very sorry but we understand and respect your opinion - we made an old-school game inspired by Myst, not a realtime 3D game.

The key in the book should be quite easy to take if you click on the top left corner of the right page, just as it's shown on a paper note in the same room. Unless there is a bug that we don't know about, everything should work fine.

There doesn't seem to be an issue with the final puzzle to enter Terra's coordinates, until now it works just fine for everyone. Has anyone had the same problem on Mac? We will try to support you if there is a problem with the game, but please give us more details. Thank you.

I wish this game could launch correctly on a mac os x....
When I open it in fullscreen, the screen remains blank.
I went to the config.ini file and adjusted it to open as windowed, which it did-- but the window width was super big and the actual game was super small in the bottom corner of the screen. I went back to the file to adjust the resolution, but it didn't do any good. I bought this game a long while ago and I still haven't been able to play it )-:. It looks really cool, and I hope I can play it soon.....

Hi, I've just loaded the game and it starts in a corner of the screen. How can I make it full screen?
Puncher D Dec 6, 2016 @ 9:38pm
On 15" Mac Retina it also opens in full screen but only fills a tiny rectangle on bottom left corner.

Not working on Mac, 15" Retina. Full screen: only black with sound. In window I get a very wide window (wider than screen) with small game in the bottom left corner of teh screen.

Basically unplayable on my Mac.

My computer is a Mac 13" Retina and it doesn't work :-(

wish this game worked

Hello Papyrus. Apologies for the lack of answers and for your issues. We are very sorry that you cannot play. Unfortunately we don't know what's wrong with the Mac version. However we're going to continue to try to update it from time to time. In the beginning of July we have uploaded a new version for Mac. It has been rebuilt with the new version of the game engine, which brought several improvements in compatibility and stability.

This last version of ASA is working properly on the Mac computers of our friends, so hopefully it's going to work for you too. In case the issue continues, we recommend that you ask a refund if it is not too late, or that you get the Windows version and play it with a virtual machine on your Mac (we can give you a new Steam key by email to unlock the Windows game - in this case, please use contact form on blackcube.fr to request a key).

@The Icehouse --- Hey, it works now! Thanks
The icehouse  [developer] Jul 7, 2017 @ 6:15am
What a relief! So that was definetely an issue with the game engine. Glad we could finally release a working update, and sorry again for taking so long. Hope you'll like the game. Enjoy!

I'm having a bug issue on Mac. I have the key to the private room but it won't do anything no matter how many times I click it.
The icehouse  [developer] Jun 20, 2019 @ 3:13am
Hi, I can check your savegame if you want. Also it might be a silly question, but are you sure that it is the key to the private room? ... By the way, did you have the Mac version for a long time? Because normally it should not be possible to purchase it anymore.
