Boulder Mechanics
Boulders seem to be triggered by enemies even if there is a wall between them and the trap, that combined with the fact that a boulder can break down a 1 tile wall has made a bit of a mess of my last zigzag entrance trap corridor.

I think it would be useful to have boulders triggered by pressure plates, so they will activate when an enemy crosses a particular tile.

Also, I would request to devs to put in the option to build artificial walls so that people with OCD can build perfectly shaped rooms and repair boulder damage :P

As far as boulder machanics go I noticed that they always trigger when a enemy gets within 4 tiles of the boulder (not counting the tile the boulder is sitting on) and will roll for about 10 tiles.

Using what I know about boulders I like to place a web trap right on the tile which will trigger the boulder so that the enemy can do nothing but watch as the boulder rolls him over.

OK, I will try a bit more distance then perhaps

so far the best thing I have found to use boulders for is a hallway with a line of 4 webs and a line of 4 boulders. The pic below shows what I'm talking about. The minute someone steps on the 1st web only the 1st boulder would roll out. 2th web triggers 2th boulder and 3th web triggers 3th boulder.

The only way right now to have more than 4 boulders here is to build another room like below.

I love that boulder setup, MysticVoid. Simple, and brutally effective. I'm off to try that out right now.

I have found that this boulder setup can even kill a dragon that tries to come in. Also if you want to you could even add poison traps on the sides of the boulders for if anyone does come by.

I like to connect about 4 of these setups to each other which would be about 16 boulders for enemys to get past. If I can get that many traps set up between attack waves.

That sounds like a good tactic, but also a little hacky for my play style :P I find that once you can kill the dragons and cyclops you haven't really got any more challenge in a map so I try to hold that off as long as possible as weird as that may sound!

My dragons and cyclops were the very 1st things to attack me and the 1st to die to my keeper in my last game. I killed them all using only my Keeper. If you think dragons and the cyclops are bad then you should try attacking the elves.

I have a odd setup as in i dig a straight tunnel and then dig like 3-5 little holes in the side each with 1 bouldertrap and a webtrap infront of the hole. Its rather effective as it kills most dragons and cyclopses after the second or third boulder they ran into. A little extra i do is leave a space between each web and boulder setup with a poisongas trap so basicly enemy runs into webtrap gets slammed by a boulder from the side walks into gas trap walks further just to get slammed by another boulder while choking on the gas

Although i always try to experiment with trap setups but so far this one has been rather effective in fending off most attacks (exept the bandits but those mostly get killed by my minions)

No trap can stop bandits. Bandits are just trap immune like the mega beasts of dwarf fortress, but worse. The mega beasts in Dwarf fortress would at least leave behind good and untriggered traps. Bandits leave you with nothing.

Yup but at least they are easy to deal with once you have at least 1 good monster

Had that recently happend where they stormed in and took ou my defense system however because i already killed 2 dragons and had a werewolf with the loot from the caves he made short work of them.

Also made me realise that i always ♥♥♥♥ up in roomplanning and put my dormitory in the wrong spot compared to the training room

Just remember to give your keeper a good long bolt-hole to get in if your defenses crumble under something. Portal is wonderful for that.
just put an eyeball at the end it will stop the boulder
two words
