The Necro Keeper, and many of it's undead minions have the "Weakness to Sunliight" trait. They die if they go outside during the day. From my experience they will usually try to avoid being outside during the day, but they can be caught outside when it switches from night to day.

You will gain access to a basalm (like equipment glyphs for your minions) that you can use when crafting minions that will remove this weakness. There are also glyphs that can give a similar effect, but they are rare.

The best way to avoid the instadeath from the sun is to keep an eye on the current time of day and make sure all your minions are inside/underground before daytime, then locking the door. Also, all the skeleton minions don't have the weakness to sunlight, they can't be used for labour but you can send them out during the day for attacks/guard duty. Vampire lords also come out-of-the-box with the trait that protects them from sunlight.

The vampire lords actually provide an AOE of darkness so any minions that travel with them will be protected during the day, I think they can only effectively protect around 4 and thats like max cap assuming your minions stay close but as I'm sure your aware minions don't always move the way you want. I usually have around 2-3 vampire lords per 15 army but about 6 of them are skeletons which are unaffected by the light.

No worries, the Necro Keeper is probably the most confusing of the Keepers to start with as their mechanics are almost entirely unique.
