Sometimes you are just out of your league and can't do much. Look at my Paths to Power post which tells you how to get the strongest units, then try again.
Youd have to use your own legendary humanoids, teutonic knights, angels, or golems, or ideally your uber Keeper (non-wizard).
That said, maybe if I go in as part of a group they will teleport to me and help me fight all that stuff?
If you've got access to jewellery there's a particular accessory that turns your damage to magic - that usually does the trick.
A decent two-handed axe can also lop off/cripple limbs even on enemies that didn't receive damage from the strike. That's how I ground down like 25 zombies that had higher defenses than my automatons had damage.
Having a decent mage for some non-physical would probably also help, but I'm pretty sure you need to unlock magical weapons and spring for the fancier hats and staves to deal with the heavy bruisers.
Other than that, potions and scrolls. If you can shake some elementals out of your back pocket or give the enemy a good dose of blindness, the battle becomes much easier.
