Some questions; possible spoilers I guess?
Can you kill death? He one shot my guy.

How do you kill units you stalemate with? Im fighting this legendary monkey thing and every squadmate I bring with me gets killed. He out heals my damage and he doesnt do squat to me. Could literally hit him for 5 minutes and not budge.

Do a search on this forum which hints that you need a KEY that you get from the bandits early on. Then when you enter the Main dungeon enemy you will find a portal. use the key to access the black market. Something there should allow you to deal with death... they didn't say what, but I assume its the "insta-rez" amulet that costs a crapton of cash.

Sometimes you are just out of your league and can't do much. Look at my Paths to Power post which tells you how to get the strongest units, then try again.
Youd have to use your own legendary humanoids, teutonic knights, angels, or golems, or ideally your uber Keeper (non-wizard).

One of the difficulties I had with this is a tendency for the key to go missing, I had to lock it behind a locked door to ensure it didn't vanish.

Confirmed that the amulet of life saving is what you need. Chat with death and he kills you, you get rezzed and stairs appear. Then you get killed by swarms of hard-to-kill spirits that immobilize/slow you and beat you down. :-(

joemama1512 you probably want to maximize the number of entities on the map so as to have enough of a change to level up, I managed to get to defeat the evil god, but that just brough me to "Down Under" where not much happened afterwards (I guess you can unlock something here but what?

Thanks. I was max level but Ive had a hard time getting my stats past 70ish. With +12 training, admantine everything and amulet defense plus 2 rings of +1 defense, I still seem to cap out at about that level.
That said, maybe if I go in as part of a group they will teleport to me and help me fight all that stuff?

Kangaroos to kill and Natives to conscript. Unless there's something that can be done with the termite mounds - which I doubt. Put simply you've unlocked the ingame equivalent of
I punched God in the face, and all I got was this stupid T-shirt.

For fighting enemies that stalemate you, the trick is usually different damage types.
If you've got access to jewellery there's a particular accessory that turns your damage to magic - that usually does the trick.
A decent two-handed axe can also lop off/cripple limbs even on enemies that didn't receive damage from the strike. That's how I ground down like 25 zombies that had higher defenses than my automatons had damage.
Having a decent mage for some non-physical would probably also help, but I'm pretty sure you need to unlock magical weapons and spring for the fancier hats and staves to deal with the heavy bruisers.
Other than that, potions and scrolls. If you can shake some elementals out of your back pocket or give the enemy a good dose of blindness, the battle becomes much easier.
