You know how some games where you manage a lot of units, like certain RTS games, will have a hold position command? Guard posts are basically that. Except it's a zone, so it's an area you designate. And of course, you can have certain minions guard one zone, and others guard another. Because you might, say, want fire-resistant minions guarding magma levels or minions that can fly or swim guarding water levels.
It's set up to be similar to how quarters work, so you can segregate your units in such a manner. Only unlike quarters, it's considerably more useful.
Think of each tile as a guard position and assign enough people to man all of them.
The best way I've found so far is a long straight corridor 3 or 4 tiles wide and 10 or so long with a mix of web and fire/gas traps and 3 or 4 guard spots manned by good archers at the end.
That'll take care of a lot of intruders. They'll walk through and stand in the damage effect while your archers pelt them.
Put barricades in front of them leaving only one slot free if you want a few extra turns before the enemy can melee your archers.
(Recently started playing again, new to the latest patch though)
I haven't seen the above behavior, yet. Granted, I just assigned a couple of Vampires to a Guard area and only had the two - They stayed there until they went back to their coffins to sleep. The issue is that they didn't get some of decent bonuses for the sort of "rec-room" I've got set up and so their morale wasn't topped out like the rest of the crew's.
Is there a minimum number of minions that need to be assigned to a Guard post in order to get them to do it in "shifts" rather than the "that's all they do, all the time" sort of thing?
Also - It seemed as if I could only assign "types" of units to the Guard posts, not individuals. Is that true or is there a way to just assign individual units?
When you're setting up jobs there are two checkbox options, one for all of that species and one for just that unit. Make sure the appropriate one is ticked.
Thanks! I only remember seeing one checkbox, on the latter, so will look for the other this eve! That's perfect to use for units that have already finished their "basic training."
