So that's another possible strategy.
However that said, thats only obtainable about midgame, and only if you deck them out with magic weapons.
My recomendation is to get 6 shaman, preferably ones with extra sorcery potential trait (cause it allows them to learn almost everything a keeper can). Get everyone in a 3 by 2 formation, haste, damage buff, and then magic missile spam by constantly swapping out the front center. Its extremely effective.
Just... Dont get hit, cause shaman are squishy. And remember to use your Blast spell too. Youll get 6 shots of that.
And at maximum range, its about 4 tiles before disapating. This means youll get about 8 vollys off before the golem hits you because he takes 2 turns to move. Doing a quick bit of math, 8 vollys times 6 shaman (which is optimal) is 48 minus the last shot which should be reserved for Blast to knock the golem back. That makes it 47 * 7 since his first approach is basically free damage. makes it 329 +1 since the last volly wont have a blast spell to drop.
If you cant kill the golem with this, then theres no way your shaman are up to the task for anything major yet. Get them better equipment.
As for the surefire method, use battleaxes and warhammers the dwarves drop. they have a chance of crushing or cutting limbs which will just make the golem fall apart, much like how it is with undead. Just keep your melee units backed with healers, or they will very much die.
You should use enough orcs that you're getting several attacks in for every time a golem takes a swing, and have a couple to rotate in and out when they get injured. Positioning is important if you're fighting more than one at a time, ideally you want to fight in a choke point where they can't gang up on you and you can gang up on them, at least 3 versus 1.
A shaman or two with the heal spell can make a huge difference. I had a group of golems attack my base yesterday when I was playing. I remember at least 4 of them attacked, it may have been more but I can't remember. I managed to use 5 orcs and 3 shamen that only had the first 3 spells available to fight them. Summoned flies helped keep them busy (you can add the flies to your party using right-click and move them wherever you want) and focussed all attacks on one golem at a time who I let through the group of flies until enough bits were chopped off to kill them. Repeated until they were all dead I didn't lose a single unit (but a lot of flies died that day) and killed all of the golems. Hope that helps.
Another very entertaining tactic is to enslave a bunch of lizardmen and give them all hammers. The lizardmen all have a natural speed buff, letting them move twice in a turn, having 5 or 6 group around a golem, attack them twice and m ove away before the golem can attack back is extremely effective, especially with hammers, since they have a higher chance of crushing and shattering golem parts, making it a ton easier to take down.
I kill the golems using my keeper.
Just attack, move backwards, just do it over and over again. As the people on top of me said "That they're too slow to attack in one turn"
