Officially Banned

So, they got it banned in the UK. And I think Canada & Australia as well. Everywhere else will probably follow.

Edited to state that it is not currently banned in Canada, as per earlier reports by some media outlets.

Some forms of pornography are still illegal in the UK. The home secretary was on the radio this morning implying that it could be used against pornographic games crossing those lines - from what this game's description implies that would be trying to realistically and graphically portray rape as pornography? If the law does get applied like that then it would apply to those who make, distribute, and/or own those images within the UK so absolutely no surprises that Steam has pulled it from sale in the UK rather than argue the toss over the definitions of extreme pornography in court.

Yes but that ban was not by Steam but by countries if it is by Steam it would be instant all over... and since we see it...

Crocodile Dundee has been remastered with around 2 and a half minutes removed from it to protect sensitive people. This will become the defacto version of the film in time. So, he's not gonna help.

It would appear that, yeah, the BBC's earlier reports of a Canadian ban were premature. They are trying to get it banned in Canada, though, so I have no idea how that will go.

For my own 2 cents: I downloaded the game to see what the fuss was about. It's shallow and irresponsible, for sure, and would've vanished without so much as a hiccup had so much attention not been brought to it.

The entertainment industry is built upon a mountain of brutality and sadism. Rape is not ok - and I'm fine with that, of course - but killing, the ultimate act of savagery, is perfectly acceptable. We're constantly watching, or partaking, in hacking, stabbing, and shooting other characters in graphic detail - and not just in justifiable war scenarios, either.

What flavor of brutality is acceptable with your popcorn, ladies and gentleman? From where I'm sitting, it all tastes the same.

What happens if you buy it and then banned after. Do you still have the game? Do you lose it? Are you refunded. Thanks.

FWIW there is basically no boundaries in movies, but that never seems to carry over to games, both fantasy. And mass killing on a genocidal level happens a lot in games and we don't ban.

I find games like this tasteless just as much as anyone, but if you care about free expression then you should be prepared to defend things that make you personally feel uncomfortable. Otherwise, you're a censorship advocate. There's no way around it.
