Eradicator

Eradicator

SVGA (hi-res) options?
Does Eradicator have high resolution options? It seemed like by 1996 most games had SVGA and/or 640x480 options. Are such resolutions offered? I didn't see them in the Options menu nor the Sound Setup launch options.. But maybe there is a DAT or CFG file somewhere in the directory with variables.. Any one know?

If it is a straight DOSbox Version of the original then nope. I owned the original CD Rom version back in the day and 320x200 (Or was it 320x240?) was the only resolution.

You got that right, no SVGA support in this one, sorry.

This game needs a remaster, like modern editions of Duke Nukem 3D, Strife, Blood, Shadow Warrior

+1 for a source port or rerelease.

Sorry for reanimating this from the dead slumbering.. but what is interesing is that there is a VESA.drv file in the game folder...

I am here to necropost as well :) Low-res modes may utilize VESA too. Check screen setup in Duke3D DOS configurator (setup.exe) for example. As far as I remember there are 320x240 VESA option, but if Iremember correctly the game warns you that this mode is not fully supported. I believe Eradicator was very resource-demanding game back to 1996, so using VESA with low-res mode might have been an option to get it running with acceptable speed. Also, probably original DOS Quake running with SVGA compatible card used to offer 320x200, 320x240..

By the way, some off-top. If you check screen setup in Duke3D (or some other Build-based games) DOS configurator you will find couple of weird options like video modes optimized for ET4000 or S3Trio (may be mistaken in adaptor names though) and some old 'VR'-like modes (for 3D glasses).

And yes, +1 for remaster :)

Actually, the best you can do is run the game in a window along with lossless scaling, which has real upscaling shaders. If you can run reshade with this, then you can even use the fake bilinear filtering shader, and combine that with LS. It's harder to upscale limited res 2.5D/3D DOS games, but there are plenty of shader options to try, especially with a modern DOSBOX build, while CRT shaders are only nostalgia goggles that don't upscale anything and mostly add vision distortion that hides the low res.

I view most CRT shaders similar to motion blur. Terrible, turn it off. I used a Sony Trinitron CRT back in the day, it never looked like CRT shaders, which look more like a terrible TV using the lowest quality cable connectors. Try Lossless Scaling instead if you want real upscaling, and if you don't want to pay for it, try Blinue / Magpie which implemented upscaling before anyone else, and made me question WTF was everyone else doing sitting around giving Nvidia a free monopoly (probably the real reason too). Including mCable which still hasn't updated their hardware for over 720p and modern connection standards. Anyways, there's options out there, and LS also supports frame generation. Upscaling alone is great, but universal frame generation? There shouldn't be anyone not considering it.
