There is a free Streets of Rage remake which is extremely good. I really highly recommend trying that (just google 'streets of rage remake').

They also added loads of unlocks and extra characters.

I was happy when I found this, as I've been looking for a good brawler game for the PC ever since playing the SoR remake.

Try ElSword Online. One of the best beat em ups I've ever played. Has 4-player online coop, tons of skills, alchemy mixing, mounts, and about 10 different playable characters.

There's also Dungoen Fighter Online Global coming out next month.

Sadly not, but it does include local co-op and several extra modes you can play.
It also includes an optional AI partner which is actually really good - you can even set how you want it to act (aggressive, defensive, etc).

It's a really well made and well polished remake, and a must have considering it's free.

Dust: An Elysian Tail and Copy Kitty are some great 2D brawlers, though they don't have the same kind of fighting game influence that PBBG does.

I enjoyed Sacred: Citadel. Plays very much like Golden Axe. Hell it even sounds like Golden Axe in places.
