New player here - Got a few questions.
Okay, so I just started playing this game. I really like it. However, there are a few things i'm confused about.

1. Is there a way of getting new skills? So far, I've found out that pressing H and J makes my character shoot electric balls or something. If there are more skills, what are they referred to in the skill menu?

2. Does this game have an indepth combo system, or am I missing something? So far, just mashing G has been getting me through levels.

3. Are there any other characters (other than the main 4 and Kurisu) that can be unlocked?

Thanks in advance ~ Plutia.

Just to preface, I do not know what any of the key bindings, but you can look in the guides section to find what keys do what. Also, the game itself has a really good in-depth how-to guide that is really good to look at if I explain things alittle weirdly so I'll try to explain

1. you get new skills by beating up the enemies and picking up their red orbs. after each battle you should be able to level up your character, but if you are playing on arcade mode, they have a menu option called "skill set" you can go to and do everything there.

2. it is a very simple combo system that has light attacks chain into medium and heavy, but in later difficulties, i find that light attacks are really unsafe with some characters, especially since it breaks me out of more combo potential. there is also a way to cancel specials into eachother, but it's character dependant on how effective some of the moves are.

3. Yes, more characters unlock when you beat normal and hard modes of the game.

Hope this helps :]

Oh, thank you! Just to clarify:

1. Just checked through the skill list and noticed all the really vague names for things. "EX"? "Counter Burst"? "Combo"? What do they meaaaaaan? ;-;

2. Honestly didn't know cancelling was a thing. Any idea on what skills can/can't be cancelled, and how exactly you can cancel them? (I'm enjoying Kurisu a lot so far, DLC masterrace)

3. Oh, can't wait! :3

1. EX Attacks are unlocked after you level up enough to where you can get it on the skill tree (think its after you get GD Cancel and SP Attack LV. 2) and you can activate them when the bar under your health is at 100%. Its done by pressing SP, the Heavy attack button, and a direction and you'll perform a more advanced version of the special move at that point. There is also your ultra move called "phantom breaker" where if the bar is at 200% and you do that input, you'll do an attack that does more damage!
Counter Burst can be done by pressing the SP button, without inputting anything else, and you'll do an attack that has armor, so you won't be hit out of it (good for taking M out when she does her spinning special move)
If you wanna test these out without leveling, the intro level has you at max level with everything unlocked so you can try these out there!

2. Kurisu, to my knowledge, can't really make use of cancelling that well, but maybe im not doing it right. I think there is a guide as well on how to cancel that could definitely explain better than I can in the guides section. Basically you do a special attack (example: Kurisu's Flamethrower) hit the SP button without pressing a direction and not having the Counter Burst active in the skill tree (cause it messes with the input then) and then inputting another special attack. Could be the same, could be something different. Again, look in the guides section and look for daniel_dx's guide for a more in-depth guide (i think he's got a video showcasing how to do it as well)

Hope I made sense and hope it helps :D

^ is right and Kurisu's light attack is way too short range for me.

For some reason, I can't do Phantom Breaker or the Light Special attacks for some reason on Keyboard when playing on the first Story mode level. The Homing attack works fine but every other Special attack never occurs.

They should be enabled on Story stage 1. Phantom Breaker is Heavy + Special (J+B) when the directional pad is neutral. Overdrive should be Light + Medium (G+H).
