Can't change controls

I can't change the controls to what I want them to be. Every time I select a control to change something, the game just freezes when "Press any Key ESC to cancel" appears and I can't do nothing but close the game any suggestions on how to fix this?

Which controls? For gamepad controls, you can override them through Steam's controller settings.
