Silent Forest Zone 1 Spiders
Hi, I'm stuck on the first zone for Silent Forest at the point where you are supposed to free some butterflies from spider bots to progress. Problem is the spider bots won't die. I tried homing attacking them first, but Sonic takes damage so I tried kicking them which makes them fall to the floor in their backs, kicking them again does nothing.

I have watched a couple of runs on Youtube and they first kick the spider bots and then bounce on them to kill them and free the butterfly. However if I do this on my game, when Sonic bounces the spider bot doesn't die and gets back up returning to the default hanging position.

I have spent some time trying to find an alternate path so I can bypass the spider bots, but no luck. Does anyone know of an alternate path through the stage? Or is there a level skip? I don't want to resort to downloading a save file.

Kick then immediately Homing attack. The Spiders have a fast recovery timeframe so you have to CHAIN the attacks together not land on the ground. Stomp would work wonders here too.

Thanks for the responses all, I guess my timing must be off when doing the second attack.

Looking this up is how I learned there was even a kick attack

This game is just incredibly bad at teaching its mechanics. Just wait until the second Zavoc fight (where a charged homing attack is required) or until you learn that you can have an infinite spindash.
