Added parts & weapons..
Yeah topic title doesn't make much sense but I didn't know how to word it.

Basically some ships I see, they aren't like their designs I've made. They have added turrets & other things sometimes, why is that? Do they upgrade themselves over time? Like the intercepter for Team 1 has two extra turrets on it's side yet on the design it doesn't.

Interestingly enough, your factions ships, even those you have designed yourself, when controlled by the AI, will actually steal parts and items from slain enemies. I have actually caught them doing this in the act, and watched as they "latched" onto weapons, engines, and even shield generators from other destroyed ships, and atached them to themselves.

Apparently, the player USED to be able to do this to the ship they were controlling, but this was removed.

Thank you for the reply. That's pretty cool, why can't we do it anymore? I think it'd be pretty cool using the enemies stuff. Even better, being able to steal it and research it for yourself would be pretty badass.

You still can but it'll take yourself a lot of micro - if you see a floating shield / turret / etc and you own the blueprint for it you can quickly change your design to add it onto the exterior and it'll add on.

I'm assuming it's been removed because the player often lives a long duration meaning if you have created a nice design you'll end up with increasing 'growths' of random junk on your flagship which can interfere with your energy management and maneuvering.

This feature actually bugs me a lot, lol. I design cool looking, symmetrical, well tuned, ships, which the AI proceeds to ruin by attaching odd parts all over.

I can't tell you how many times I've seen my interceptor sized (1k P) ships attach the giant thrusters left over from agent fleets, those thrusters are literally bigger than the ships themselves, they will kill the maneuverability of ships that size. That's not the worst part though, usually they don't even attach them to the back, but to the side or some other odd place. They not only kill their own maneuverability, but make it so they can no longer fly straight!

End rant. I wish you could turn the feature off if you wanted to.

Yeah its a little wonky but given that every ship is flown by the AI in the exact same way there is probbably a bigger issue to fix than latching onto foerign parts.

Perhaps in the future, they can add that fleet ships do not follow this behaviour, only freelancers.

I have a station that picked up a thruster. I can't deside if that is a bad thing or a good thing :) Now it acts like a drunken ballerina simply spinning through the universe banging into everything. I cant remove it so I am actually thinking of armoring and weaponizing the heck out of it just for fun.

Thanks everyone for the comments, I do hope the developer looks at this and takes it to conderstation being able to toggle it on or off.

I am both negative and positive about this. It can be funny/interesting to see how ships fight based upon what is added but it can get annoying as some of you have said they go all over the place making them worthless.

By the way, I have a few little off topic questions.

1. How do I unlock the space stations?

2. How can I disable or make ship trails smaller? Sometimes it gets hectic and all I am seeing are trails flying around everywhere (this is on a 27inch screen fyi)

3. Any ship bulding help would be appreciated.

To build a station simply forget to put engines on a ship. No unlocking needed!

I personally love the feature of my ships taking parts from the enemy. Not only is it added utility for the ships, but I think of it as they take trophies from their kills :D

I like this for the small faction 2 "mouse" ships (which I did modify a little). But them picking up random crap/weapsons along with their very cheap cost, makes me think their trollness goes up. But at the same time, it is weird seeing my larger ships attach a gaint thuster to the side of the ship. So maybe an option is in order whenever you're designing a ship to turn that salavging on or off.

It becomes a problem though, when I make factories and then a part gets in its way then it is rendered useless for example.
