What's the point of the game?
To just... build? Bigger and better ship, kill more people, make stations, "conquer" areas... forever?
No change, no evolving, not even a loop
Just keep building

Yeah pretty much. Admittedly it would benefit from having some random objectives but I find the base game to be pretty enjoyable. I don't personally find conquering sectors to be fun on its own but occasionally you'll come across specific ships or fleets you can't beat and you have to go back to the drawing board, and I get satisfaction from subjecting my new designs to trial by fire in these situations.

What ARE you supposed to do? To make sure I'm not missing anything

There isn't an actual goal, it's just fun to build ships and explore the galaxy.

I like to create many many different ships and pit them against each other on the Tournament mode. It's fun making your own battle scenario such as having 3 battleship got ambushed by a dozen light destroyer and carrier. And keep trying to beat yourself by designing better ship is always fun. The only time i play the galaxy is to gather resources to unlock all the parts, and you should go look at the workshop to add more life to the game!

I suggest trying to join tournaments arranged by hosts such as me. I am currently running tournaments and the community is still active on the Reassembly Discord Server.

Whenever I try to find the tournament screen it is empty
Or do I need an IP?

Tournaments are not online, you do either receive fleets from other people and host locally + record or you could send in a fleet to someone else. I am currently hosting tournaments if you are interested, it is the [MLT] tournament i made a discussion about. You could read there to find out how a usual tournament may look.

Check out the workshop, theres some stuff there that helps the content at least more weapons races and map changes. Me personally I just really like ship construction and designing things, and making completely different ships/fleet combos for different situations. I even just started dabbling in making megastructure ships with little to no thrusters that I just poop out of the factory and they can be anything from a stationary turreted bunker to a moving wall with weaponry.

Theres a singular mod something like Vanilla enhanced that ramps up all natural ships from little floaters on the screen into capital ships with devastating weaponry. that mod tests your ship designs and strategies like nothing else.A simple turf war turns into a galactic massacre with ships broadsiding, plowing into one another, and some splitting whole fleets in half with 1 volley of their weapons systems.

I recommend the free ship P mod. I hate spending hours grinding ship P until I can make something a quarter the size and half the power I really wanted it. once I unlock my weapons I wanna get down to making the coolest ♥♥♥♥ I can. I mean its satisfying the first few times building that up but it REALLY drags you down after a dozen games when you have mods that add weapons that cost tens or hundreds of thousands of money.

To be honest I stopped playing this game for grand fun at this point
I just log in once in a while, build some stuff, kill some ships, die many times and quit.
All of that in an hour

Your not just building one ship you eventually need a fleet that will act as support. So you will need to build fighters, carriers , repair your ultimate goal is to survive. Your actually playing against other player made fleets.

The issue with the majority of Agents and many mods is that they are too week and unable to sustain themselves. A decent player will win without support.

That is mainly due to the amount of "fleets" created by players who have no clue what they are building. Too many focus on just one ship or iterations of one ship. When the real point is to create classes of ships to support each other. I have gotten some that crushed me and alot that are just trash. The difficulty is community created. When 90% of players dont get the point and quit or just churn out trash it affects everyones game

That is the point, why a player with a decent 8000P ship can usually defeat almost any agent except for cheesy things like Sentinel Rammers.

there is a point I would say. You design your ship, kill enemies, earn money, upgrade your ship, but then you can start producing new ships and creating new designs that will populate the world, design and produce new space stations to conquer the map, it is not that boring at that point

If you come to a warp hole, you can send in your ship and it appears in other players universes as an agent :-)
