SpyParty on Mac
Hi, having trouble launching the game on a Mac. Launching the game pops up SpyParty with
the wineskin application icon, nothing being displayed.

Do I need to actually install wineskin to run this on a Mac?

Running mac version: 10.13.3

No, but I did make some changes to the zip recently, so re-download it from the spyparty.com beta homepage, and then follow the instructions in the MacOS README.txt and you should be good. If not, post in the beta forums (since you've got a spyparty.com account). We're still in the process of figuring out support here!

Thanks,
Chris

Thanks for the response. I'm sorry I don't actually have a spyparty account, nor do I see a way of signing up for one aside from buying the game again from the website. I got the game on steam.

Presumably it's an issue with wineskin not playing well with Mac High Sierra.

I'm having a similar issue getting it to work from my Steam download. Subscribing to this discussion in case there are updates!

Hi. Same symtons as the OP. I've paid for it on Steam. How can I download from spyparty.com (as suggested above) without paying again? iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014) O/S 10.13.4

I bought this for a friend who has a Mac and they can't open it on their Steam Account, either.

Since it looks like Chris is putting out other fires - if you are a bit adventurous, you can create a wineskin wrapper yourself (which is how the Mac steam install is supposed to work anyway.)

I am uncertain if posting these instructions or this suggestion somehow breaks the Steam EULA, so please have some grace with me if it does. I'm just trying to help.

This hacky solution isn't officially supported by Steam or the developers of Spy Party, so don't bother them about it. I bear no responsibility for how this may affect your steam installation, but I don't anticipate copying the exe out of the steamapps directory will break anything.

Download Wineskin Winery: http://wineskin.urgesoftware.com/tiki-index.php

Open it, and click the little plus to install a Wineskin Engine - you ultimately want something like "WS9Wine2.22" in the list of installed engines.

Once that is done, create a new blank wineskin wrapper. Call it 'Windows Steam for SpyParty', and open it up in finder. Right click on the created app and select 'Show Package Contents'. There will be a 'Wine' application in there, so open that. Then, click "Advanced Options" and under Tools click Winetricks. Update winetricks, and then run the apps/steam winetrick. This will install steam. Then, head back to the configuration and select the steam exe.

Test run it, and install and run spy party through that version of steam.

(I initially had instructions for just wrapping the downloaded executable, but those didn't work for logging into the lobby, so these updated instructions show how to install steam in a wineskin so you can launch SpyParty with the steam integration.)

SpyParty is windows only on steam right now. If you refund from steam then buy from spyparty.com there's a mac version there that will work (and you can link to your steam account for when mac is supported here). Technically you can install the mac version on steam right now, but that's not intentional, and I couldn't get it to work.

edit: though if you buy from spyparty.com there are still some bugs with the mac build. There are workarounds that you can find on the official forums at https://secure.spyparty.com/beta/forums/index.php

Same problem here. The WineSkin log shows that a dyld is missing - maybe the WineSkin archive is corrupted?
Here's the log: https://pastebin.com/8HYXeHpR

It appears the game is showing up on MacOS steam even though it's not ready. I don't think it should be showing up there, but I think I messed something up in the backend.

By far the easiest thing to do is refund on steam and buy it on spyparty.com and use the installer zip there, which is well tested. If you're feeling brave you could try to get it working with wineskin using the files installed in the steam download (which shouldn't be working).

Varanas, the latest macos zip on the home page has all the wineskin stuff fixed, by the way.
