Other than having Lady and Trish, theres not much reason to put it as a favorite.
Best art style? But most everything 4 does, 5 does better
Ah this is taking me back to what 2008 must have been, the Resurgence of the "why the ♥♥♥♥ an I playing as this Raiden Pretty boy, instead of Solid Snake, why the ♥♥♥♥ do I need to sit though his Girlfriend issues!?"
DMC4 is a clear change of pace when it comes to Devil May Cry, but frankly for the time it was kind of Necessary. The DMC1 and DMC3 fans didn't appreciate Nero, but Nero existed for newer players who never played DMC before.
The reason DMC4 has such Long and elaborate cutscenes is simply because they were possible to make now. DMC4 was a big effort from Capcom during the 7th generation of consoles this was supposed to be one of the games that justified why someone should even own a 360 or PS3. Unfortunately, due to the rising production costs of trying to impress players in those days. Those kind of cinematic choices led to the stories getting in the way of the gameplay, that is still an issue to many games to this day, but the facts are when there are players who aren't good enough at games so that only the gameplay is what they need to get to the end of a game, the Narratives help push lesser skilled players all the way to the ending because they get invested in whats happening.
The players who have been though the Devil May Cry song and dance Multiple times, are ones who end up skipping the cutscenes after a single Playthrough, so cutscenes being too long is only really a Temporary issue.
As for how Nero is as a playstyle, Nero is a way to try and bring the combat back to it's Essentials. He is easy to learn, but Challenging to master, as Nero has the Exceed mechanic, once you have the Max-Act upgrade you'll be invested in every single attack you perform as Nero as they all have the potential of charging his sword. There is also things like Making sure to always Charge his Blue Rose, and such. Nero has plently of depth with the tools he has, It's just unfortunate that he doesn't get any new ones.
When you reach Dante's part of the game you'll realize that Dante has far more then enough depth to his gameplay, to make up for Nero's more streamlined to design. Unfortunately, the dev team kind of ran out of Steam when it came to making DMC4, you'll find that when it comes to levels and enemies, the game is kind of Half of what it should be. Be it because of money. or running out of time, or simply running out of creative ideas because this was the 3rd DMC "4th if you count DMC3SE as a Separate release to Vanilla DMC3" game they made in a row in the span of only 5 years.
The Special edition characters where only added to DMC4 many years later. the Dante and Nero part of the game released in 2008, where DMC4SE released in 2015, 7 years later. And while adding the 3 new characters is cool, they didn't fix the Underlying issue of a lack of content. So you have a ton of tools to use, but only so much game to use it in. Still Want to unlock Bloody Palace mode, that's one of the most rewarding gauntlets in gaming history to over come, especially as Dante. It'll take you a Considerably long time to become skilled enough with DMC4 Dante to actually be capable of beating DMC4's Bloody palace with him.
I say just stick with Nero get Max-Act and learn to consistently rev his sword during attacks, once you get to Dante i'm sure you will be satisfied, unfortunately Dante only gets 7 missions to Nero's 13. That's just how it is. Trish is the same way only getting 7 missions to Ladies 13. Vergil just gets all 20, but you'll see why that is Fairly repetitive once you get to the later missions.
DMC4 has all the potential to be one of the most fun games ever made. It just has hurdles you need to overcome.
