Yes, at first I was wondering why was the shadow so stretched. Then it came to me it was a silhouette of Nero's Devil Trigger. Could Vergil's soul be in Nero? Hahaha.

That, or something else. I am expecting a surprise somewhere. I don't know if it's about Vergil and Nero's connection or else, but they did say that there was going to be a big revelation while broadcasting Nero's gameplay on Twitch when people asked about Nero's background. You can still watch it, you'll see what I'm talking about.

...is no one here going to mention that Nero is Vergil's son?
LegendaryDS Jul 31, 2015 @ 9:20am
yup... vergil ending explain Nero is vergil's son... and im pretty sure he is
I don't know if it is just me, but it boggles my mind. JUST... How does one correlate from a shadow, that X Character is Y's Son.

Can't wait for Capcom to pull an unlikely story.

There's a couple of hints. The was a DMC4 novel that explained that Vergil went to Fortuna before DMC3 and impregnated a prostitute. The canonicity of this has been debateable (and still is), but now that SE has come out, with Vergil visiting Fortuna before DMC3 and a very conspicuous camera linger on that one woman from the opening cutscene, it seems to indicate that its something like this.

There was also a DMC panel (iirc at Sabotencon?) with Reuben Langdon and JYB where someone asked what would happen if Nero and Vergil met. The answer was pretty vague ("I think Nero would learn alot about himself") but supposedly they also know who Nero's father is.

That said, because the game didn't say anything outright, Capcom can always just say that isn't the case if they feel like it. Very safe of them.
To be honest, I think Nero is actually Sparda's reincarnation just by subtle hints from the game. His story backline that comes from the game and his conclusive love interest resembles Eva and Sparda just alike Kyrie and Nero. Not only that, his two weapons "Blue" Rose and "Red" Queen, alike his son's indicate Dante and Vergil by the respective colors. Which are practically his side of personality traits. Then there is the fact that it is mentioned that he's heavily connected to Sparda himself within the game a few times. Also the entire ending cutscene to me just sells it alone on the fact that he is a reincarnation.

Yet, playing the game more again I can definitely see now why the theory has arrised that Nero is of mass relation to Vergil. Especially by the inherited one liners etc. My favorite being "BEGONE!" or "Scuuum."

Interesting theory, dude. I would like to play as something closer to the actual Sparda itself. (Rebellious and level-headed.)

Here's the deal. I've been thinking a lot about this, so I'm just going to lay it all out.

There is NO WAY Vergil is Nero's father.

Do the math. How old were Dante and Vergil in DMC3? How old was Lady in DMC3? How old is Nero, NOW? Nero is easily in his late teens, early 20's. His physiology is that of an adult male, nothing childlike at all. Which means he would have had to be sired by Vergil 20 years in the past of DMC4.

Go back to Lady. She's a human, 100%. She doesn't look anywhere close to 40. And that's just assuming she was 20 years old during the events of DMC3.

Now let's go back to DMC3, If Vergil is Nero's father, either he kept it entirely secret the whole time, OR he hadn't sired Nero yet as of DMC3. At the end of DMC3, he fell into Hell itself, so I don't think he was banging any humans on Earth for a while, especially since the Demon gate remained closed after Temin-ni-Gru's destruction.

So what about before DMC3? Well, let's think. Dante was about 18 or so in DMC3. Which means Vergil was the same age because they are twins. At 18, or even a couple years younger, Vergil could have sired a child. But probably not earlier than 15 years of age. We would have to accept that Nero was conceived during or shortly before DMC3, and then add 20 years for his maturity.

So if Vergil was, say 15-18 and then had a son with some random woman who is never mentioned or shown in any way at all (As far as I know) that would put Vergil and Dante at about 35 in DMC4, and Lady close to that age.

I do admit, that, after writing this all out, that timeline KIND of works. However, I still disagree that Vergil is Nero's father simply on the grounds that Vergil wouldn't have had the foresight to either "plant the seed" OR find it in himself to lust after a, to his eyes, weak human.

Additionally, my theory is that Vergil possessed Nero. It all comes together in MIssion 06 of DMC4. When Nero is trapped by the lances and he blacks out. He says, and I paraphrase, that he would give anything to protect her, even if it meant to become a demon, so be it. and THEN Yamato reforms, THEN Yamato comes to Nero's hand, and THEN whenever he Devil Triggers from that point on, there's a GHOST hanging over him that attacks WITH Yamato.

That's Vergil. His spirit from Hell to help someone with similar ideals. Yamato probably focused his attention since it was his sword. If Yamato wasn't in that room, I'd say Nero would have died there. But it came to him. It gave him what Nero needed.

More...power....

Furthermore, There's a couple of other bits of info.

1. Nero didn't have the devil bringer since birth. Remember in the first cutscene how Nero's arm is in a sling? That's because he was recently injured by a demon. In the instruction manual for the game there is a small paragraph with a short story detailing that Nero was in a fight in a forest nearby, injured his right shoulder, and his sword was damaged. Remember that Kyrie brought Nero his sword after the fight with Dante?

2. Kyrie mentions that Nero's arm hasn't healed yet. It was expected to heal, because it wasn't supposed to be some glowy demon arm. But, that, somehow, happened. Which means...

3.Nero's power only began after that injury. Then he gained Yamato in a time of distress where he calls out for the power to protect Kyrie. Nero calls out for power to defeat his enemies in a reckless fashion and in this universe, sometimes a Devil hears those prayers.

Or I can only guess that's true. My guess is that Vergil understood the power of Sparda, but what of Dante and Vergil's mother? Why does Vergil "need more power?" My theory on that is that Vergil's mother died at some point and Vergil wasn't strong enough to protect her. Which would explain his disdain for humans, and his obsession with his father, Sparda, who once fought off all the demons in Hell to keep them from coming through the gate.

Maybe Vergil heard Nero's need to protect Kyrie and granted Nero the power to use Yamato so that Nero wouldn't lose Kyrie like Vergil lost his mother? But I admit, I am grasping at straws for that one.

Anyway, thanks for reading to the bottom of this. I hope it was informative or fun to read. I also understand that Capcom probably hasn't thought nearly as much about all this as I have and we'll probably never get a straight answer anyway.

The outfit Lady wears in DMC3 is reminiscent of a Japanese School Girl uniform, so she must have been around 16 at the time. She is no way 36 years old in 4, so its doubtful that Vergil and Nero are related.
