Is this game worth it before 5?

Just finished dmc3, going thru very hard mode and just kinda getting tired of the game. getting a little stale after 3 runs.

Dmc5 is looking spicy as hell, but im sitting here like "mmmm but i should play 4 tho." most people just call this game "ok"

Is it just kinda lame compared to 3 and 5 or should i play it?

Combat wise DMC4 is really good, the issue is that it lacks content. Basically you play half the game as one character, then turn around and play that same half but in reverse as another. DMC4 was kind of rushed, and didn't have enough budget. so it's only half the game it should have been. That being said the half that is there is a good game worth playing.

and yes if you are going to play DMC5, it's a good idea to play DMC4 first since it gives you an introduction to allot of concepts that return in DMC5. DMC4 has the set up for allot of things that get Payed off in DMC5. If you skip to DMC5 from DMC3 you will have no concept of who Nero is, and you should because Nero is a very important character.

Also DMC4SE is the only game that lets you play as Lady. Trish was unlockable to play as in DMC2, but she is really fun in DMC4SE.

Yes, it is a good game and you should play DMC4 to fully understand DMCV

But since i only come for the gameplay and not the story, could i just watch a story recap of 4, go to 5, then back to 4 if i want more dmc? Because ive always been kidna looking into dmc and know a lot about nero already and some major plot points of 4, so i think im fine, its not like you go to dmc for the gripping plot, its because you can dual wield motorcycles.

everybody is saying that the game is good except for being short on content and you're still stuck on skipping it so you should definitely skip it

Can't really recommend to go back to 4 after 5. It just feels really clunky when you are used to 5.

Unless you're a top player and can use 4's momentum tech that 5 doesnt have.

Definitely play 4. It's obviously better than 1 and 2 (hot take.) I personally loved the game so I highly recommend it. And it's best if you do play 4 so you'll understand the story in 5, some parts of the story wont make sense if you don't play the prequel.

but i read about many issues with new high PC's

I know it's an old thread but I'll just say this to others that will look at the same question: it is a skipable game. The only thing that stands out is the fact that it has the most playable characters. If DMC 5 didn't exist then yeah, I'd recommend it, but now it's skipable.
