Good to know, thanks for the info
And they added 2 grim grip points to reach some hidden orbs, because Lady can't reach the areas other wise.
Those are the only changes I can think of.
I'm sure if you get one of those DMC players who has put in 1000 hours in both versions they can tell you some smaller things that changed a bit, but as far as I could tell the two versions when it comes to Dante and Nero are practically the same.
Hey man - you're talking about me then, haha . Yeah - SE actually NERFED Dante inadvertently. His Distorted Real Impact timings are weird so it's much harder to kill DMD level Blitzes (they're already a chore to fight in the first place). They also made Dante "heavier" when he does the Flush (jump + Triangle with Gilgamesh - aka the Dive Kick) - he falls faster with it, which makes the standard method of getting rid of Blitz shields less effective.
In Vanilla as Dante the fastest way to de-shield a Blitz is to jump and Flush then immediately Royal Guard - when you Royal Guarded you "bounced" off the Blitz and you had enough airtime to Flush again and you maintained the same height, so you could basically stay in the air forever until their shield went down.
This also messes up some of the really cool fancy stuff you can do with that move in the middle of a juggle combo - higher level players like Donguri can easily compensate for it.
They also "nerfed" a bug you could do with Lucifer that allowed you to relaunch the enemy in the middle of a combo even though you didn't have it equipped - forgot how you did it, but it's not possible to do it in SE anymore.
The only other change they made that stands out like a sore thumb is with Nero versus Blitzes (AGAIN). Once you de-shield them, if you Buster them in Vanilla, you could mash Circle (or whatever you button was for Buster) to do extra hits - gives you more points, do more damage, and gain more style meter. They removed this so you can't - it'll do a fixed number of hits and points... this sucks even more when you Buster them during Devil Trigger - you could do a TON of hits and it felt satisfying, but now you can only do a fixed number even with DT.
The higher level DMC4 players think that these little "nerfs" happened because of the change of engines - they went from an older version of MT Frameworks to the new one that's used by RE 6 and 7. This also made the game less toaster friendly and made the load times much longer.
The blame likely lies with Access Games, who aren't really technical wizards (see Deadly Premonition). I'm confident that if DMC4:SE was handled by the original dev team these issues wouldn't have cropped up. I'd also point out that the game's color depth took a hit in the 'upgrade' process, there are also some much worse looking screen effects (the effect when you leave an area is lower res and not as well done as before, for example). Contrast has increased, causing more areas of the image to become bleached white.
I find it astounding that the game lost roughly 66% of it's previous performance simply by adding some motion blur and god rays (if you were getting 120FPS previously, you'll now struggle to maintain 60FPS).
Anyways, the new characters lose their appeal after a while so I feel comfortable recommending the original over SE.
Or you could just refiund that trash as im' sure it doesn't log your hours of cash grab DLC used...
This won't be a problem come March, when every DMC game will be on Steam.
I really hope it uses an updated MT Framework so that we can do fun mods for 1 and 3. And who knows, maybe modders can somehow fix 2.
