Yeah, they are kinda part of one story
Also you can play Bloody Palace with every character
You play Half the game as Nero and then you switch to Dante, Then you replay all the levels you just did only in reverse.
You switch to Dante at mission 12 play as him untill mission 18, and then do that last 2 mission as Nero again.
This is the same with Lady and Trish, although Vergil gets the whole game to himself.
But thankfully you can unlock bloody palace mode, which lets you play as any character you want for 101 waves of fights.
Dante IS Devil May Cry. Imagine if they did this with Samus in Metroid, or Laura Croft in Tomb Raider. People wouldn't stand for it.
Things did get better in 5, though. I'm more than fine expanding the roster, but I do hope my man Dante takes the spotlight again someday.
