Fellow keyboard players:
How the hell do you manage Dante on keyboard? What's your scheme?

I love this game to death, and i'm glad i managed to find a decent setup to play all the other characters (screw calibur and shuffle on keyboard though). I'm having the time of my life on Vergoo and Trish. But Dante just becomes too overwhelming. It was great on console because the UI matching the D-pad really helped, but i'm at a complete loss on keyboard where i need three hands to simulate a controller.

Oh, and ghosting. My keyboard drives me nuts, i can't even charge up guns properly with my setup, i'm too lazy to change it though since i got used to it, but damn.

Managing the camera and lock on is a bit painful (honestly fixed cameras are a godsend on KB), but aside from having to press a weird combination of WASD in some positions to do certain moves, it's manageable.

The same way I do the other characters. Only keys i rebound are the IJKL to arrow keys to have the hands more apart and taunt to tab, DT to F.

btw I don't have any problems with charging the gun with this setup, once you get used to holding the button it just happens "on it's own"

also, I haven't touched camera control once with exception of that vital star at the beginning which i havent used yet, any of them, but I just have to pick them up

I tried with the arrow keys but it just wasn't comfortable for me

And for charging guns i legitimately cannot, either i charge, or i attack, but i can't do both at once, since my keyboard won't register that many key presses, i guess i need a better one.

And yeah, there's very little need to move the camera around which is nice, and there's even a button to center the camera to you which can completely replace a stick, it's basically how i play Monster Hunter on DS, but i don't use it on DMC4.

For Dante you honestly want to have some kind of hotkey script tool like AHK to manage the style switching (ie define one key to switch to a style and preform style action, auto hold down gun button and release on press, etc).
Also get a better keyboard. Because if your keyboard has a rollover (smallest number of keys pressed down that can always be recognized) below 5 then it's utter garbage.

I used to play the games with keyboard for 2 years and just a few months ago switched to controller and it's a whole new world. I think that charge shot is easy as hell on keyboard, though. (even compared to r2 on controller). However, shuffle and calibur etc... big oof. It IS very manageable in my opinion but I wouldn't go back to it. Oh yeah, and that keyboard not registering some button presses at the same time is my biggest issue with it (though mine was okay-ish in that regard)

Yeah i'm usually pretty supportive of KBM in gaming but when it comes to 3D hack and slash games, i tend to favour controllers.

That does sound like something that could help but i don't know if i'm tech savvy enough to set up something like that. Or maybe i just need more motivation.

You can always try. AHK is free to download at https://www.autohotkey.com/ and they have a very good documentation. Only issue is that the scripting language itself is pretty damn horrible when you're trying to do anything more complex.
If you don't feel like writing the code yourself you can try searching for a finished AHK script in the forums that does what you need.

the answer: Go grab a controller

You're talking about basic gameplay to just beat the game or advanced stylish combat? I didn't change anything in my Dante's control scheme. Still 1234 goes for style switching J-normal K- Jump L-style(easier for me to Jump Cancel than on gamepad), I -ranged. When i first started to play Dante on keyboard i thought it was impossible to master him properly and i need a gamepad. Now i don't think so. I can execute almost every advanced technique with KB( Guard flying with Gilgamesh fullhouse, trickster guard flying is little bit tricky tho, star rave etc). It just depends on what do you want to achieve with Dante

Both to be honest. My keyboard starts being a serious enemy in DMD, but i'm sure i can manage that part, afterall you can beat DMC3 with only one style at a time. i'm even more discouraged for advanced comboing which i also take interest into, so i guess that's my biggest concern here.

At least i can enjoy trying to play Vergil at an advanced level, although i still need to learn how to properly utilize inertia and have more air control without air trick (Did they really have to make it so you can't trick up once an enemy has a sword in them though? It annoys me to no end).

As i said before i am pretty much new on Dante(didnt like to fight as him with kb) and played mostly Vergil since the SE release. but well i recorded short vid with default keyboard settings. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=su37owdc9m4&feature=youtu.be

Well done then! I'll keep trying and maybe change up my scheme a bit but maybe Dante on keyboard is just not my thing. Neither default nor custom ones i tried felt comfortable for me.

I don't even mind not learning flying guard and other tricks like that, it'd be enough for me if i could even perform what i want to do (basic style switching really), but alas, i feel like i have a disability when i try.

I'll never understand why anyone would play games like this with a keyboard and mouse - it's not even remotely worth it

Because that's what i'm currently stuck with.
