Restaurant Empire II

Restaurant Empire II

Serious gamebreaking issues - not for everyone though
1. Start game
- Menu doesn't respond to mouse clicks

2. CTRL+ALT+DEL to task manager and kill the exe process

3. Start game with "Run as admin"
- Menu works
- Go to options to alter AV settings
- Cant set proper resolution, only incompatible low-res (1024*768 and 1280*1024) are available
- Game freezes while in options, mouse can move though
- Screen now goes black, but mouse can still move

4. CTRL+ALT+DEL to task manager and kill the exe process

5. Start game in "Windows XP SP 3" compatibility mode
- Start sandbox game
- Adding table sets and bathrooms to ground floor of restaurant
- Restaurant suddenly turns all white with red/orange thingies in it

--UPDATE--
There's a workaround for the issue where you disable "Glow" in the games graphic settings.
Enlight claims that it's due to the users incompatible graphics hardware.
However, as this error is present on such a huge variety of graphics hardware, the hardware cant be considered the problem.

6. Saving the game

7. Quit to Windows

8. Start game

9. Load saved game
- Saved game is loaded and the restaurant is all white with red/orange thingies in it.

This game does indeed feature serious issues due to a total lack updates.
Screen resolutions like 1024*768 has been outdated for almost a decade and so it goes for the 1280*1024.

When they chose the lazy way of keep charging money for the game, but not update it, they should at least advertise it on their website: http://www.enlight.com/WebStore/RE2BuyGame.html

As I'm writing this, all it states is the requirements to run the game:

Operating System:
Microsoft® Windows® 2000 / XP / Vista / Windows 7
Processor:
1 GHz CPU or above
Memory:
256 MB RAM
Hard Disk Space:
2 GB
Video Card:
128 MB 3D card compatible with DirectX9
Sound Card:
DirectX compatible
DirectX® Version:
DirectX® 9.0c

One thing thats obviously missing here is: "Monitor that natively supports 1024*768 or 1280*1024 for proper display experience".

At least I didn't buy it here on Steam for $24 as they are selling it through their website for almost $10 less, but still that's pretty expensive for a useless game that doesn't work out of the box.

Right now, I'm awaiting their response to the E-mail i sent them with error descriptions and a screenshot.

I'll make sure to keep you all posted here, whenever I get to hear from them.

--UPDATE--

1. Started new game

2. Clicked "Recipe" button

3. Clicked "Menu" button
- 2 seconds later, the screen went black
- Couple of seconds after that, game minimizes and a msg box Says "Menu" error

4. Clicked the "Ok" button on the msg box
- Msg box disappeared
- New msg box appeared with the same msg

5. Opened task manager and killed the exe process to avoid further msg boxes from popping up.

I E-mailed info@enlight.com yesterday (jan 13th 2015) about the issues mentioned above including screenshots.

This morning I received a confirmation from them:

So lets see what they may come up with if anything.

A new version of Restaurant Empire 2 which supports up to 1920x1080 resolution on the full screen, and improved display scaling on the window mode is now available as a Beta.

To install Restaurant Empire 2 beta version 1.10 on Steam:
-Right-click on the Restaurant Empire 2 game from the library page and select "Properties". Among the available tabs will be the "BETAS" tab.

-Select “Beta” from the drop down box. Leave the password empty as it is not required.

-Close the “Property” window and run the game and you should see “version 1.10” at the bottom of the main menu.

To change the screen resolution, select “Options” from the main menu to go to the video options page. First select whether you want the game to run in Window mode or not as this affects the list of available screen resolutions. (e.g. 1920x1080 is only available in the full screen mode.)
