Do you know how expensive it is to develop your own proprietary game engine nowadays? What else do you want them to use garbage Unity or GodoT LOL? Unreal Engine 5 is not perfect but it's easily one of the most robust engine one can use in this day and age.

A complainer and a defender. If you both merged, this thing called nuance would be born.

Robust? Its literally killing the gaming industry. Even a 4090 can't handle UE5 properly.

I only have a 4070super and all Unreal Engine 5 games I played so far ran pretty well. Maybe upgrade your GTX 970 and stop spreading misinformation?

Boo-♥♥♥♥♥♥♥-hoo. Maybe if companies stopped over spending on marketing and over hiring people with mental illness to fill a quota, they could afford to make and use their own in house engines again.

Thing is KOEI TECMO actually do have their own in-house engine but it's pure GARBAGE on PC, look at the trash tier Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty and Nioh 2 optimization on PC. Unreal Engine 5 runs way better than their ♥♥♥♥ custom engine and it does look ten times better.

Have you thought about not owning a 4090? Get a real card.

Many UE5 games run perfectly fine on my 4090, you must be playing early access games that are poorly optimized.

I’m at the point where I’m convinced UE5 is fine for VISUAL TECH DEMOS, but not for GAMING. Too many instances of the UE5 holding games back that provide little to no real improvement in graphics.

i remember playing Witchfire like a month ago & being blown away by how well it runs, then looking it up and its just UE4. it didn't go away! it has basically every tool that UE5 has except for the ones that ruin games, so there's literally no reason to use 5 except like, cuz Epic is paying you to ruin your game

literally every feature of UE5 that is advertised only works for tech demos. Every UE gamedev i've talked to is like "yeah not a single one of the advertised features actually does anything for like, actual games". it's a game engine designed to be sold to non-game developers. which would be fine, if it weren't, like, being called a game engine and sold to execs who don't know any better to foist upon their poor teams

Unreal has numerous problems.

- Traversal stutter. This is where the engine is streaming in new sections of the map. Unreal has always been terrible with streaming data, and as maps have become more complex this has only got worse. It will be better on PCs with very fast SSDs and top end CPUs, but it's on Epic to fix this at source.

- Shader compilation stutter. This was UE4's biggest issue as the move to DX12 made this an essential step, and Epic couldn't be bothered to build it in so devs had to do it by themselves. Some were better at it than others, and if a shader isn't pre-compiled, you get a stutter. Faster CPUS will help, a little. UE5 now has the ability to pre-emptively compile shaders on the fly, but it doesn't completely solve the issue.

- Camera stutter. This is basically a bug in the engine and is on Epic to fix. Some games seem to suffer more than others with this. The recent Silent Hill 2 remake was a particularly bad example.

Ultimately it's on Epic to fix their engine, but they never bothered to fix UE4 so I doubt UE5 will ever be fixed either. They don't really care, and why would they? Unless you're a big AAA with the money and people required to write an IDTech, a SnowDrop, a RED Engine, or a Frostbite then you end up on Unreal. And UEs problems are probably so deeply rooted now they would be too expensive to fix.

Celebrate the custom engines when games use them, and shed a tear when a dev ditches in house tech to become another generic Unreal engine licencee.

Same, its so annoying. Most UE5 games are a blurry mess and have a bunch of stutters. Things like nanite were promised to improve performance but are doing the opposite. How are some games from 2015 look and run better...

For those who argue about hardware instead of playing games: stutter issues does not magically go away because of you buying the latest tech, the gameplay will feel ♥♥♥♥ regardless of your fps. This is either on the devs or on Epic and we cannot tell for sure, only that the issue exist.
