This particular Ninja Gaiden game is a remaster/remake of Ninja Gaiden 2 Sigma. It uses 2 Sigma almost entirely for the game. The main differences is by default without mods: Less enemy health in general, blood and decaps is here in mass amounts instead of a purple smokey particle effect, the shop has you spending karma on upgrades instead of it being milestone based regarding story progress, and the statue bosses are gone. its somewhat of a shame, because they used base NG2:Sigma over Sigma +. Sigma + has more costumes, with (irc) 7 for Hayabusa, where now there is only 4 for Hayabusa.

So this remaster/remake does not have large enemy counts, certain bosses (OG and Sigma) some more I'm forgetting and no costume palette colors. If this was truly a remake, they could have emulated the OG game more with at the very least enemy counts, but right now it's just a shinier less optimized version of NG2:Sigma with certain small elements of the OG Ninja Gaiden 2.

And still no Red Muffler costume :(
You mean, like a ninja? :slyninja:

gsdudeus, is it worth the purchase still?

Of course, but I am a total glazer for Ninja Gaiden so a little biased lol. If you haven't played (or don't own) the Ninja Gaiden Master Collection then this is a cool faithful remaster of Ninja Gaiden 2 Sigma that looks prettier and doesn't need modifications to be at it's (somewhat) best but with arguably worse optimization. Good game to start with in modern Ninja Gaiden, since the series is heading more into the action based direction away from the metroidvania type action that Ninja Gaiden 1 Sigma (and Black) did before. So if you may be interested in Ninja Gaiden 4 or the idea of owning the master collection starting with this is a decent idea.

Of course if you own the master collection and dont want to bother with emulation, and want close to the OG Ninja Gaiden experiences (The best versions minus Ninja Gaiden 3 OG) then you can install the black mod for MC Ninja Gaiden 2 Sigma for blood, more enemies and gameplay modifications like delimb values.
I already own MC, would you say it's worth at least a playthrough coming from MC and prior games? Also thanks for the mod recomendations, I'll keep that in mind.

If you feel that you could come back to this specific iteration over the MC version then yes. This version has everything that NG2:Sigma+ on MC has; chapter challenge, difficulties, trials and 4 characters to play as (4 only on trials still). The only differences really is graphics, mods and costumes. NG2:Black is very very pretty, but does not have an established base of mods to change gameplay (or enemy counts) and compared to NG2:Sigma+ much less costumes for every character. I do believe that modding for this game can be possible (at what scale I don't know), at least as much as the MC (and hopefully with less drama).

I would come back to this game basically because of looks (and after years of playing NG its a fresh coat of paint and much appreciated), though I still prefer the old graphics and the styling of it. Plus the MC version of NG2:Sigma+ has a gold healthbar unlock upon completion of Master Ninja and that's pretty cool. Imo worth a playthrough if you're a fan of NG, because its literally just the same game but prettier. and doesn't need mods to be closer to the original NG2.
Hm, I'll take it into consideration, thanks.

The whole series is an out of nowhere for me. I had no idea they even did remakes lol. I had no idea there was even a ninja Gaiden 2? I just remember playing the original Ninja Gaiden, and never heard from the game again. Geez have I missed out.

lmao now you have so much to go through. Literally peak character action gaming. You also happened to miss out on the constant waiting for news on Ninja Gaiden, so I feel jealous in a way. Every time Team Ninja released a souls-ish game with stamina my heart died a little inside :(
they must have got bored of beach volleyball or just payed other people too make it for them

Thanks for the excellent explaination 🤨 but still kinda confused so if this is a shinier version of NG Sigma than how is it definitive because NG Sigma sucks in comparison to OG NG2 for the Xbox 360. That game was freakin intense I heard that the maker of that game didnt even care about censorship and delivered gore and boobs in spades. Unleast the core assets are lost like in Panzer Dragon Saga or og Silent Hill 2, why cant they remaster the OG NG2, cheers

On a different note it has been ages since I last played NGB and NG2 on the Xbox360, do Emulators actually improve NG2s slowdowns? If yes, thats the definitive edition, as for NGB the OG Xbox disc is the way to go you can play it in your Xbox Series X to death, cheers
