Some times it’s insane arguments about nitpicking the slightest character design or line of dialogue, and other times it’s speedrunning 360 to PC port development or making our own fan remakes just to see an alternate take.
(helps that Sega doesn’t block that type of activity and generally even encourages it. So there’s no fear of random cease and desist nonsense. Imagine all the fan content for other series if their publishers were equally lenient)
I will watch that ports career with great interest.jpg
But yeah, it’ll still take time
Also wasn't a fan of the combat. Like typical Hayashi-style, it's often over when you get hit once from a minor mistake (often leading to a wombo combo). And I wasn't too fond of the stamina recovery system. In a game of Gears of War there's a risk/reward. In this game? There's isn't a risk/reward system tied to it, if you don't use it it's just simply not very playable because your stamina will drain too quickly.
Those are just a few things, but the game has a crapload of those minor issues and oxymoronic game design choices (such as nice level design being pointless if there's no reason to explore). Even today I still think Sekiro is the game that Nioh should've been.
Most dont and think its played like some kinda Souls game.
Nope.
Sekiro is just a parry sim, theres no depth its pretty over rated when it comes to combat.
Not bad, just very basic and nothing special
But you claim theres no risk reward yet think Gears has it. If you miss your reload time in gears then you gotta simply wait to shoot. Its nothing I would praise in any regard.
In Nioh, timing your ki pulses constantly lets you create the intended flowstate of combat.
I will agree there's too many mixed game design choices and some are there just for the sake of it like the mechanics curve over time that gimps you from being able to enter flow state until you get all the things you need to make it happen, that exists only for the sake of a false sense of progression which is dumb.
Combat wise tho Nioh is an incredibly high skill ceiling of creativity but the vast majority will never experience it because they play it like its Dark Souls.
It is a souls rip off. I thought that was obvious? Thats what Team Ninja does. (Virtua Fighter/Tekken -> Dead or Alive, Ghost of Tsushima -> Rise of Ronin etc)
Its not only a souls rip off, its a pretty mid rip off as well. Still not a bad game and worth your time if you buy it on a sale or get it for free.
The only 'Souls' about it are superficial surface level irrelevance, not the combat.
Fancy combos are irrelevant when the game tries so hard to be an easier souls clone and never encourages the player to be creative anyway.
Everything is a 'soulslike' to yall its stomach churning 😆
This is the most objectively incorrect take I've read today. Nioh plays nothing like a Souls game, other 3D fighters exist, and the only thing Rise of the Ronin has in common with Ghost of Tsushima is it's an open world game set in historical Japan.
