THAT Hard To Port Actual NG2?
Seriously, you'd think it would be simple to just port over the original game/keep the original gameplay difficulty intact.

But apparently it takes 3 different ports (2 Sigma, Sigma Plus, 2 Black), and none of them are the actual NG2.

I wonder how hard it would have been to reverse-engineer the game from disc. Or how law works in these cases.
Its been done with remasters before since the PS3 days.

So it seems more like a "We dont want to", instead of a "we can't". Unless there are rights issues.

Naming it 2 Black is pretty cheap though. Its more a Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 Black.

Everyone speak about ennemy density and gore from NG2 on 360 but the real change between it and Sigma 2 is the visual of the game that is entirely different. Hayabusa's village is the most blatant from just the start of the game.

The visuals don't really change how the game plays overall.

Atmosphere changes are a thing. Like stages occurring during the day (instead of at night like the original)

But the gameplay downgrades are more important.

I really don't like how the devs are advertising this as if it was the OG NG2, its not, and it will never be, the original developers claim to have lost the code...thanks Itagaki... So you will never really have the definitive edition of NG2 despite what the devs claim or the ads show. Still kinda pisses me off.

ai will reverse engineer the source code in a few years
If Team Ninja did the following, Ninja Gaiden 2 Black would be perfect imo

-Increasing the number of enemies (including giving bosses on tougher difficulties regular enemies to help fight alongside them) and to balance it out nerf enemy grab damage on master ninja difficulty/slightly increase how much yellow essence is needed to purchase upgrades/items in the shop

- Restoring Key items (Jade Mask, Cast Iron Key, Cracked Security Card etc) in order to be able to advance past what were originally locked doors

- Restoring the Buddha Statue boss

- Restoring Tests of Valor

- Restoring giant crystal skull

- Allowing any character to be used on any chapter in Chapter Challenge

- Restoring windwill shuriken

- Restoring water hazards/enemies/gatling gun

- Restoring New Game+

I really hope Team Ninja updates the game and restores most of these, especially the enemy count and restoring the Key items. The game just came out so there's the chance that at least some updates are in the works beyond just bug fixes/performance optimization

lolno. AI coding impresses mostly people who have never coded anything substantial in their lives. Those who use it to assist their coding know how damn stupid it is. It requires constant babysitting by someone who knows what it should give. Trusting AI to do something on its own is like trusting a toddler with a flamethrower not to burn your house down.

Pretty much.

AI right now is "Confidently Incorrect" for a large amount of time. If it cant even get some facts correct 100% of the time, theres no way it will be able to reverse engineer an entire game lol.
Ninja Gaiden 4’s development absolutely prioritizes resources, which explains (but doesn’t excuse) their half-measures with this. Reverse engineering the original NG2 would’ve been a money pit for a niche series ( 6.8M lifetime sales [teamninja-studio.com] vs. MGS’ 62M [www.metalgearinformer.com] or KH’s Disney-backed juggernaut status), especially when even the Master Collection sold just 240K units [www.vgchartz.com] in a month.

Let’s be clear: Naming it 2 Black was a cynical marketing ploy to bait OG fans, and doubling down on Sigma’s flaws (like gutted enemy counts) shows where their priorities lie. KH-style rebuilds are possible—but those franchises have AAA budgets and mainstream appeal. For NG, it’s a business decision, not a technical one. We aren’t wrong to feel sidelined, but expecting MGS-tier remasters for a cult series is naïve.

I don't think you could be more wrong even if you tried. Improving the graphics costs far more money, time and effort than mechanics and balancing. And they wouldn't need to reverse engineer the original. There's plenty of data and videos on damage values, hits, dismemberment rates, spawns, etc. All they needed to do was take that data and make something that's approximately like the 360 version of NG2 in terms of combat and feel. It could have had the good stuff from both versions.
I would be more upset if you couldn't just emulate the original pretty easily now. People who care will play the original and the ones who don't wouldn't appreciate it anyways, I don't think.
I don't get why they wouldn't just give you the option of selecting 2 different styles of play. The big thing that's still missing here is that the enemy count, health pools, dismemberment rate, etc, isn't what it was compared to the original. Okay... so they lost the source code for the original. So what? They can't just play the old game and see what the spawns were like? They can't play with enemy health amounts and dismemberment percentages or whatever and even try to get close to what it was? What are we talking about here? It's health pools, spawn counts, etc. These are modifiers. The framework is already here.
R.O.K. SEOULDIER lähetti viestin:
according to the devs the lost the original codes. some other person made a thread and posted a link to interview.
this isn't an excuse anymore. We have companies like Nightdive Studios reverse engineering old versions for re-release. We have also fan-made decompilation of old games. Restoring NG2 spawn counts and damage values is more than possible (a modder did it for the master collection)

You guys want the truth? Losing the souce code isn't the only reason. TN HATES the original NG2 version. Its that simple.

Its not ideal. Limbs still shimering on the ground.

Perhaps there are some truth here. I mean, KT ported the NG2 to Sigma engine when they made NGS2, so KT still had the source code of NG2 around this time. Logically, they still should have both preserved, since NGS2 code is still available. So, either both still available (and they just don't want to do anything with that code because of Itagaki) or they deleted NG2 source code since they thought only NGS2 code is more than enough for them to keep. Personally, the former is more logical to me than the latter.

Wouldn't it be easy just to increase the enemy count and increase the chances of de- limbing. Do we have to wait for modders to do it?? It's insane if we do. That would mean a guy in his free time can do a better job at creating something then a million dollar company
