Good first Ninja Gaiden game?
Title.

Or should one start with Ninja Gaiden 1 or the Master Collection?

Thanks in advance.

NG1 remains my favorite but 2 is where the over-the-top gore started. Up to you what you think is going to hook you best.
I'd recommend Ninja Gaiden Black and the Ninja Gaiden 2 mod for Sigma 2 unless you have an eck bawk to play 2. Skip this until it gets modded a few years later.

Ninja Gaiden Black on XBOX is the real deal.

I mean Black is missing content but that content is now gone with Xbox Live down. So if you weren't there, you missed out. The original Ninja Gaiden had XBL exclusive missions and challenges.

Well the gore seems fun and Ninja Gaiden 2 Black (from the optics of someone who has never played Ninja Gaiden) looks really good. Just wondering if it's the best starting point (I have done some research and am aware of the different versions of each Ninja Gaiden game)

Probably need to get Ninja Gaiden Black somewhere else right, because that's the Xbox version if I'm not mistaken? Also are the Sigma versions that much of a downgrade?

Cool, I am assuming Ninja Gaiden Sigma retains most of the features of the original or is it objectively worse?

Ninja Gaiden Black. If that is not possible then Ninja Gaiden Sigma 1.

Sigma 1 is ok. Sigma 2 is the one that butchered the original game.

If you're new to the franchise, the only one thats a straight up downgrade is sigma2, because its heavily censored. I reccommend you play the game the hassle free way, all on PC, with Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Ninja Gaiden 2 BLACK (this re release, its solid), and then after you play this, try to play the original NG2. By no means is this a bad release, people are just mad it isnt a 1:1 of the 2008 version for some reason, which is wild considering we havent even had a whisper of Ninja Gaiden other than a rise of the ronin fighting style in years.
Yes this is fine for your first NG game. NG2 was my first game on the Xbox 360.
Alright thanks to everyone for the replies!
MGR is a much better experience for your first hack n slash op
