Amazing visual and gore but the developers should have been more honest.

Yeah, as an OG NG2 fan I'm very disappointed. I'll just play through the Game Pass version once that'll be it. I have no desire to fully complete Sigma 2. Beat the PS3 version on the hardest difficulty and that's enough for me.

The source code for og 2 has been lost so kinda hard to do that without it

True. This is definitely remake. Level design seems different compared to the original Xbox 360 version.

That's because this was based on sigma 2. And this is not a remake, just a remaster.

Hard? Sure, but it's been done before. Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD is Kingdom Hearts 1 fully rebuilt in the KH2 engine because they lost the source code for the original.

Like, this ♥♥♥♥ happens. If the developers wanted to build something that looks, feels, and plays like the original NG2, even if it isn't based on that source code, they absolutely could. It's just a matter of if they're willing to invest the time and money.

Instead, they decided on some comparatively minor modifications to Sigma 2, and porting it to UE5.

That was their choice. I wish they'd chosen differently.

They wouldn't have been able to reverse engineer it even if they wanted to. Square spent ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ forever rebuilding KH1 after they lost the source code. OG NG1 (which includes Black) and OG NG2 are lost, forever. There's no bringing them back. That's why we're only getting remasters and remakes using Sigma as a base.
