NINJA GAIDEN 2 Black

NINJA GAIDEN 2 Black

Is this NG2 Original Restored, or just Updated Sigma?
Or a mixture of both, like extra content, but base gameplay of original NG2?
Because adding gore and enemy placement won't change the game if they don't change how the Bow Behaves as well as some other minor things like puzzles.

Also, since it's based on the horrible Unreal Engine, does the game micro-stutter, or does it have shader-precompilation?

Thanks!

It's far from the "Definitive Edition". Missing costumes, ninja race mode, 3 bosses and leaderboards. https://teamninja-studio.com/ng2black/us/comparison/

I'm having fun with it. I played the original xbox 360 back in the day and was thinking of playing it on Series X before this remake.

Same. I prefer the originals to the Sigma versions, but at this point, the haters have got themselves into such an endless whiny tantrum, they just refuse to let themselves enjoy anything. Typical ♥♥♥♥♥♥ game community stuff.

Recently finished OG NG2 on Mentor and it's nothing like the Mentor difficulty of this game. This is more a mix of OG NG2 and Sigma 2.

This is sigma with gore.
What is the difference between the OG and Sigma beside the giant bosses, dismemberment and difficulty? This game literally has everything from the OG Xbox including what I mentioned above: dismemberment, gore and higer enemy count. Is all of this in the Sigma version? If the answer is no, then this game is NOT another Sigma. It's more loyal to the original that the Sigma version.
Absolutely NOT the 360 version.
Enemy counts are nearly identical to SIgma 2 - slightly higher in some areas, but generally much lower than Vanilla 2.
No ranged UTs, bow has the lock-on system
Unlimited arrows.
Incendiary Shurikens, Harpoon Gun, and Windmill Shuriken have been removed from the game
Item locations and pick ups are same as Sigma 2 (you get more powerful weapons and spells sooner, and healing items and upgrades more frequently)
Chapter 2 is daytime, like Sigma 2
De-limbing enemies is more challenging than in Vanilla 2 (forward Y with claws and van gelf is not a guaranteed delimb, luna delimbs in far more hits, etc.) - in short, the enemies are still spongey and take much longer to kill, like in Sigma 2.
Enemies have increased damage profiles - meaning you can still get random one-hit-deaths, just like Sigma 2.
Howling Cannon is back - like in Sigma 2.
Enemy placement and consistency seems to be 90% Sigma 2, and 10% brand new so far... nothing from Vanilla 2 seems to be back in this regard. An easy example of this is the archers pre-Retsu in Chapter 2.
Bosses still have more health than in Vanilla 2. It looks like they might be less of the massive, spongey mess they were in Sigma 2... but they are still super spongey.
Enemy agression is generally lower. Especially for ranged attacks.
Tests of Valor have been removed from the game.

These are just the big, easily recognizable changes after a few hours with the game. Sigma 2 had hundreds of small changes - most of them for the worse.

This is Sigma 2 with some re-worked bosses (Water Dragon has you on the platform like Vanilla 2 again, Statue of Liberty, Buddha Statue, Hatensoku fights are gone, Dark Dragon boss is still in, etc.), the gore from Sigma 2 Plus added back in, and the ability to upgrade weapons with essence (which, it is too early to tell... but I feel this might make the game even EASIER for veteran players... time will tell). That's it.

This is a $50 version of a game that was already included in the $40 Master Collection... just prettier to look at.
That said... it certainly feels like it has less input lag and runs better than Sigma 2 in the MC. I don't know if that is worth paying $50 for, when you can get a physical copy of Vanilla 2 for less than $30 on Ebay and it is backwards compatible with the Xbox 1 and Series X.

Thank you. I really just wanted the OG but from this it seems like it's just a gutted version or a dolled up Sigma 2. Sad. That dude glazing this game and getting all bent out of shape because someone asked a question is ridiculous.

This is what i wanted to hear. Thank you so much. I was thinking this was actually NG2 with bonus Sigma Content. Apparently, it's not. Missing Weapons/Puzzles and Level Design is a no-go for me. Added gore is nice, but i am not spending that much money on the game that didn't bring back the fundamentals of Ninja Gaiden II.

Quite effing lying. Sigma 2 had dismemberment, just not the gore. Black 2 does not have a higher enemy count. Tests of Valor are still gone. Costumes from the original are also still gone. Game balance is pretty much the same as Sigma 2, absolutely nothing like original 2.

If you're gonna argue it's the same as the original, at least play the damn original -__-
Dude, you're ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ for literally nothing. If you enjoy that version so much go and play it in Xbox 360. This is the BLACK 2 version, of course it was going to be different, just like the Black 1 version from the OG 2004. If people like you had internet in 2005 you'd ♥♥♥♥♥ about the Black version altering everything from the original. Enojy both games for what they are, not for what you miss from the original.

BTW I have the original and a fuctioning Xbox. I've played it countless of times and I find differences but it's not the end of the world.

Okay then let us buy OG Ninja Gaiden 2 on steam and playstation. This entire discussion wouldn't be a thing if people could just play the version they wanted on modern platforms, instead of being told lies about what is supposed to be the definitive version of the game.

Yeah I've heard that some people preferred NG1 original with Hurricane Packs from XBLA over NGB.

Ninja race race sucks and the Buddha boss is trash. Shame about costumes and leaderboards, but the only true loss is that the enemy count more closely resembles Sigma than OG.
Jojo Jan 24 @ 3:42am
The fact that people are parading the removal of the Buddha boss as a negative is crazy. Content for the sake of content is not always good, and that boss was trash.

Not OG from what I read. It's somewhat of a mishmash. Encounter rate is still what it was in Sigma and Staircase fight is still pussified. So the thing that Made the original crazy and fun is not here.

I Agree. The Buddha fight was complete and utter ass and the game is better for not having it. I suspect the people whining about the Buddha fight being gone are just some randoms who want to troll and not really fans of the original games. I can't imagine a fan of the series being mad about it being gone when almost every fan prefers the original NG2 to SIgma 2.

How is the enemy HP and delimb rate? If it's more like the original and has the encounter rate of Sigma 2 then this is going to be the easiest version of NG2 by far.

its a bizarre sigma 2 mod and the comparisons later will be interesting.

for most people this will replace sigma 2 outright but for gameplay the original is still superior.

Budda and Statue of Liberty fight, which were added in Sigma 2, are gone. I will say it's a mixture of both OG NG 2 and Sigma 2, plus with dismemberment and gore added back in that were removed in Sigma 2.

Yeah it's a mix of both. I mean, I'll take what I can get but I guess the OG Source Code went missing when Itagaki left.
