Letter Quest: Grimm's Journey

Compare to Bookworm Adventure - worth buying or not?
I like Bookworm Adventure games very much and consider buying this game too... Is there anyone here who played both games and can share an impression about their differences and common features?

I played Letter Quest Demo for a while, and there some things that I like and some things that I don't like.

Good:
- A dictionary. (Especially useful for me, because English isn't my native language)
- More different types of tasks (gusee the word to open a chest, for example)
- I can type letters instead of clicking on them
- An option to replay a level on higher difficulty.

Not so good
- Visual style. (I don't expect much from casual game, but it looks ike it was drawn in Inkscape in several days. I doesn't make an impression of something solid).
- Plot. (Again, I don't expect much from casual game, but Bookworm Adventures offers at least some explanation of what is happening and why monsters and bosses are who they are. In the beginning of Letter Quest it seems much more formal - just to keep player moving.)

So, the game seems to be better in gameplay, but not so solid and elaborated as Bookworkm titles. I still don't know, if it is worth buying or no. What do you think?

definitely. I actually tried and bought bookworm adventures because I liked letter quest and heard they're similar but having completed them (bwa1-2) just last week, I have to say I had much more fun with letter quest.

yes, the dictionary is a huge plus and I really missed it from bwa. the visual style is really a matter of taste, I wouldn't say it's great (neither is bwa's) but it's good enough and I'm sure you'll get used to it after a while, plus you can change tilesets after unlocking them.

as for the plot, it's just there to keep you moving, as you said but I didn't find bwa's story to ne noteworthy either, they just threw everything in there. I did like some references to scifi in the second game but that's about it.

all in all, I'd say definitely buy it. I got about 14 hours of gameplay from it (bwa1-2 combined was about 18), it was absolutely worth it.

I do not agree with the visuals criticism. I think the artworks look very crisp and well drawn.

Edit: I just looked at some Bookworm Adventure screenshots and the artworks in this game definitely look better at least at first glance.

I agree that visuals style is matter of taste... Maybe if Letter Quest, not BWA, was the first game of such type I've played, I would have a different opinion.

What about plot, I like, that in Bookworm Adventures the core mecanics are at least somehow supported by the plot. (If main character is "Bookworm", you can understand, why he uses letters as a wearpon. I also liked the idea of "restoring order in different fiction worlds"). In Letter Quest gameplay mechanics are just mechanically attached to what happens on screen. (Maybe I'm wrong, and it will seem more logical later).

I can't remember the letter thing being justified. grimm just wants some pizza but some monsters are in the way and he deals with them with his word-powered scythe. simple as that :)

Considering these games are usually meant for children I don't think arguing that the game doesn't have the newest graphics from the Cryengine or that the storyline is up there with Game of Thrones should be a top issue.

"good gprahics" for me doesn't necessary mean "newest graphics from the Cryengine", it is more like "graphics that are at lest good drawn, using some details and subtle colors instead of several basic colors like it is in Letter Quest. (Think about "Tiny Bang Story" as an example - it is 2d, it is casual, it is for children and I thin its graphics could be called "good"). I think children deserve it :)

I think both graphics and "plot" are great here, and I find Letter Quest to be much more amusing than Bookworm.
I'd say Letter Quest is almost as good as BWA (BWA is still a lot better). Letter Quest is worth buying simply because there are no more BWA games besides the first 2 editions and it doesn't seem like anymore will be released. Letter Quest is the closest thing to BWA and there is also an Android version unlike BWA only having a PC version.
