Tile Colors
So I just downloaded the demo and I really dig this game. I'd like to purchase it, though I have one small problem before I can. I'm colorblind and I have a hard time distinguishing the colors on the letter tiles. Is there an option to help people like me identify the differences?

Thanks,

I'm pretty sure it has a color-blind mode, even seem to remember it mentioned as a feature but can't find it on the store page, so maybe I'm wrong. yeah, I know, not helping, sorry. the game has different tilesets though, not sure if it makes any difference.

Forgive my lack of experience with the game but I know the colors are related to the damage that is done (maybe has other affects too? dunno only played the demo) once a word is created. Does the tile set affect these colors? Really that is the important part to me. Maybe I'm completely blind but didn't see an option to change this.

it's been a while since I've played the game but I think you need to unlock/buy new tilesets, and I'm actually not sure if they have any effect on colors, never tried any of them. maybe a dev or someone else will be more helpful, or you can contact the devs, they seem to react quickly to most raised problems/issues.

I appreciate your help... very oddly as I was posting this message a friend jump on to play 'Letter Quest' and I asked him if he could check. His response "dont [sic] see anything." So I think this is a Sad Hug Bot moment -> :togsad:

you can always ask the devs to consider adding it. from what I've seen of their post-release support, I'd bet good money they'll think about it.

Kind of hoping this thread is the "hint, hint - nudge, nudge" to the devs!

It is indeed! Just need some clarification - are you talking about the little colored dot in the bottom-right corner of each letter tile? If so I already have a plan to fix those up so they can be identified by something other than color.

If you mean the crystal tiles that sometimes pop up with special effects on them - I can consider making them different shapes or something. Also you can click the question mark help button and it will put a clickable question mark over each crystal tile that you can click to explain which type it is.

To sum up: I'm definitely interested in making the game colorblind-friendly, and will do whatever I can! :)

That is exactly what I'm talking about and it is awesome news that you already have a planned fix! This is a great service that you are providing not only for the colorblind gamer but for yourself too... Serious bro!

Check it out, I have some facts for you and a little did you know...

...that over 8% of the population has some form of colorblindness and that there are over 65 million Steam accounts? This basically means that a developer of color based games could lose out on over 5 million potential customers just on Steam alone!

...and now you know! LOL :D: &BTW Thanks!

Thanks for the info RoX, good to know!

I'm just about done testing the new version, just wanted to know how this looks to you:

Basically it still uses gold/silver/bronze, but now it's 1 dot for bronze, 2 for silver, and 3 for gold, so that even without the colors it is hopefully apparent which letters are worth more. Does that make more sense/fix the issue?

I should be able to have this update out later tonight, just need to do some final testing. :)

Whoa... Yes, it is blatantly obvious which one is which now. You're pretty quick with the trigger and I wish every developer was as helpful as you are. Serious bro, thanks!

Awesome, this update should be out later tonight (or tomorrow morning if I fall asleep too early tonight before I can get it all done lol).

The update is now live! Took longer than I expected since I had some issues uploading the new build (something changed on Valve's end recently, and I had to make some changes to get things working again).

Please let me know if it works better for you. I haven't updated the demo yet, will do that tomorrow - need some sleep, it's almost 2 am here!

Update announcement/details.

Cheers!

Colorblind update rocks, but did you at the same time introduce the word being typed 'jumping' as you add letters? I didn't notice it before and it's quite distracting, so I hope I can somehow disable that.

Seeing how responsive you are and how much I enjoyed the game, I've already bought the full version. So the demo update wouldn't actually affect me but that maybe a deal breaker for some. Being colorblind, I've noticed this issue coming up with a lot of other games here on Steam and for a lot of gamers who share my disability, this is something that I know they look for before they make purchase; as color based games generally will become a waste of money for us if there is no added mechanic to help us identify the differences.

Regardless, I'm sure the change has been noted on your update log and I see that my version Letter Quest has been updated as well. I can't wait to check it out after work and I appreciate everything you have done!
