How to run the game in Windows 10
UPDATE 13.10.2018

Try this method first and only if its not functioning try the previous tutorial below! This method functions on my LGA 775 motherboard, Xeon E5440 and GTX 1050 Ti without problems.

However be warned, the resolution of the game on modern monitors is very bad (from obvious reasons) and you might not enjoy the game like in the past but its still completely playable!

1. Go to your Steam Library -> right click on Deadlock II -> Properties -> General tab -> Launch Options.

Type:
-w

And press OK

Install the game.

2. Download ddraw.zip. Go here :

https://github.com/narzoul/DDrawCompat/releases/tag/v0.2.0b

Extract ddraw.dll to the game folder:

(C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Deadlock2). If you have to replace make backup of the original file.

3. Enable DirectPlay from Control Panel. Go to: Control Panel -> Programs -> Programs and Features -> Turn Windows features on or off -> Legacy components and tick DirectPlay. Click OK and restart the computer.

4. go to your Steam folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Deadlock2), create shortcut from the deadlock.exe and put it on desktop.

5. Right click the deadlock.exe shortcut you just made, click on "properties" and in compatibility tab set compatibility mode to windows XP Service Pack 3, tick reduced color mode and choose 8-bit (256) color and tick "Run in 640 to 480 screen resolution".

Play the game from this shortcut!

Thats it!

Many thanks to Iceira and Necro_L who mentioned this more simple method, I only added the DirectPlay step which was needed on my PC for the game to run.

This is the previous much more complicated tutorial:

1. Go to your Steam Library -> right click on Deadlock II -> Properties -> General tab -> Launch Options.
Type:
-w
And press OK

2. Download ddraw.zip. Go here :

https://github.com/narzoul/DDrawCompat/releases/tag/v0.2.0b

Extract ddraw.dll to the game folder:

(C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Deadlock2). If you have to replace make backup of the original file.

3. Download, extract and run dxwnd.exe. Go here:

https://sourceforge.net/projects/dxwnd/files/

Import deadlock.exe in dxwnd (->Edit->Add-> and on “Main” tab fill “Name” and point “Path” and “Launch” to the exe files in steam directory. (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Deadlock2).

Very important, without this step the game wouldn’t start.

Under “Window initial position and size” enter the correct number for your monitor. The resolution of my monitor is 1920*1080 and I had to enter x 50 y 50 H 1440 W 1080 and Desktop center. Click OK. Everything else was left on default. Minimize the window.

This excellent tip is from user “gho” from this thread:

https://sourceforge.net/p/dxwnd/discussion/general/thread/b25ff4aa/#d9ce/bb96

Right click deadlock.exe from the steam folder in your computer and set compatibility mode to Windows XP SP3 . Reduced color mode 16 bit and all three below ticked.

4. Make shortcut from the exe and play from it. Don't play from the steam shortcut, it will open but with graphical glitches.

This is the way I succeeded to run the game with no delays and no flickering. Hope it helps.

Can you find stuff for Nvidia users, like Nvidia inspector and/or control panel settings?

check run in window

I got this to work with the Deadlock II preset included in dxw, but I had to set show cursor and check hybrid under share ddraw and GDI DC

The best would be if somebody would recode the game for Windows 10 but I'm realistic it will never happen, which is a pity, the game was really great!
