Why is my village starving to death?!
I have 6 Established farms, 2 Animal Pens filled with cows, 2 clucker pens that at are full, 2 kitchens stocked with cooks, and 36 farmers.

Why is my village not producing any food?! I see the chefs butchering animals i see the farmers sometimes tending to crops, I have multiple water sources yet it seems like I'm hardly producing any food to sustain my villager.

Yet when I search the forums I see some people stating that they only need 3 farms with like 6 farmers to sustain an entire village of hundreds. What am I doing wrong? Or it the AI being dumb and not doing it's assigned task?

Make sure there are seeds in the farm. Farmers have to get seeds from wild crops to plant.
in summer the growth-rate is super super low and winter has no growth at all.
Honestly I say screw it after 150 population. I fence in a large field of crops and grow them with powers (of course I grow them during spring/fall while daytime and raining).

better turn those food to ration as the effect is greater than raw vegetable or cooked meat.
And better your ratio for 1 established farm is equal to 25 people. then 40 people for one established animal pen.

do you have any organizers distributing the food to the housing?
@OP: set cooked meat production to zero. :yay:

The thing is they're not cooking rations. It could be they're prioritizing cooking the meat which I'll just see about disabling. I have 200 raw veggies in storage from the holy potatoes I'm having to force grow just to keep myself scraping by.

I've been having to force grow holy potatoes, dunno if those count as seeds once harvested though. I don't see anything that says they can't be used however.

That might actually be a good idea, it'll probably force them to prioritize rations.

I have 34 organizers so I think we're good with that.

similar vein question. A villager died of thirst even though My population is only 14 and I have 2 watermasters with a well and a water purifier... what gives?

I would bet he got trapped. A tree/stone most likely grew and blocked him from getting back for water. That or you built a wall and isolated him on accident.

TLDR: Disable cooked meat.

In case anyone else drops in on here. So far setting cooked me to 0 production seemed to have mostly worked for me. I still get the occasionally starving villager but my village is also massive so it's possibly the long distances of walking that's taking some, but so far the cooks are actually making rations.

But aren't cooked meats or cooked eggs supposed to be good for something? I mean, they can't really be there just to distract you from the efficient choice of just making rations? Although to be fair - I just played a game where I allowed my cook to make anything he wanted by allowing all production until storage is full. My cook immediately proceeded to start slaughtering every animal he could get to, in order to make....leather. And only leather. It didn't seem that he was making fresh meat and leather, but ONLY leather. IS this a bug? Has anyone else seen this?

I sometime have that problem until i start making water bottles. Some villagers are workaholic that will not stop even if they are dying of thirst. Use the hand to shake them up, once confused they will go fetch the water they need.

From my experience, having just enough food to go by will prevent cook form working. They only cook excesses and remember your animals also eat some. If the game make the calculation you are too short, you won't get any rations.

Setting everything else to 0 might help, i never actually had to do it. It is better to have farmers tending to the animals pens than using organizers. Having dedicated workers will prevent you from having low food in some pens.

Lastly and most important i realized quite late, keep rangers hunting. Pens recover slowly, slower than the map spawn wild beats. Make sure there is a least 1 spot of food outside your village, it will draw wild beasts there. Your ranger will do the rest.

My population is 43. I have 6 cooks in to 2 kitchens. 8 organizers. 240 raw food. My cooks spend all their time being idle, or transporting food to other buildings. NO COOKING rations even though I really want them too. I have turned off cooking meat, eggs, raw meat...everything is 0 except rations. Anyone know why this is not working?
