So its impossible to get rid of corruption completely ?
its hard capped ? and if you try the game just throws a middle finger at you ?

I got it to a tiny corner and killed all buildings and suddenly there was a huge wave of lvl40 monsters, flame elementals just shooting like gatling gun.

I honestly would rather play a map that is completely encased in corruption, but to be able to beat it back slowly and get rid of it completely with time, rather than this impending and never winnable DOOM. It just feels its worthless to play if its guaranteed you cant ever win, whats the point to try.

Since the 1.0 release back in October 2019, it's been possible to completely wipe out the corruption. It's meant to be the hardest thing you can do in a region, and is most easily done early, before year 2, with sooner being better. The longer you take to wipe it out, the harder it gets, both from the rising threat driving up monster levels and spawn amounts, and the corruption taking longer to give up any tiles.

I can definitely second that difficulty from experience. Trying to clear the corruption out of its last little corner is such a pain, even when you manage to get past the towers and get down lights. It does seem to be possible though, and if i manage it on my current map ill reply with that info.

hmm, is it by design meant to be doable with some unlocked bonuses ?
I am not even playing on survival.

You can do it without perks, once you know the game well enough. Perks will make things easier.

It's possible, I did it last week. Build 1C, survival.

I did it on my first two maps, just took a couple retry to get the corruption spawn where it was easier to acces. Made it by rushing fire pits quickly to stop the corruption progress.
After that I just abused of the ranged golems that seem to be the best way to deal with anything currently (the new patch might makes this much harder).
By day 10 I think the corruption was gone, I was killing all the enemy buildings with the fire spell, it's crazy good vs them and avoid the spawn of tons of enemies

I see, yeah, i was trying to use actual towers, and compared to golems they are so inferior its unbelievable.

Yup, at first I went for towers, they do very well against low level monsters but when they start getting higher levels, towers just become useless :/
Especially if you fight corruption since you get high level monsters really quickly

Iv'e run into a snag on several occasions. When I finally removed the last section of corruption from the map, I can start to see monsters spawn over impassable terrain and then wander out into open areas. All of this is taking place with no corruption nearby, unless it's hidden somewhere on the map and I just can't see it.

But now all the monsters I see are spawning from the bottom edges of the map and moving into open space. With no clear reasons as to why they keep spawning.

Monsters try to spawn in open tiles, but if none are available they'll spawn atop trees and rock, which triggers the "Walk off blocked terrain" AI, which is what you're seeing, from corruption tiles underneath that terrain.
The other bit, sounds like you you have single corruption tiles right on the map edge, which can cut off tile visuals due to how the edge tiling works.

So corruption can actually exist under covered tiles and the edge. The edge I've known about, because I was lucky enough to see any enemy spawn from one specific point at one surge and they put a pit right next to it.

Now I've got a literal mountain to dig out, because that's where they seem to be popping out from under.

The last wave spawned before you get rid of corruption is ridiculously overpowered. I *held* down lightning for an entire night in a bottleneck where enemies gathered. Continuous lightning for what looks like 20% of the threat bar. I lost my village the next day due to few remaining fire elementals one-shotting buildings. Ten maxed out crystal golem spawners didn't beat what they handled with ease the previous night.

I'm considering cheating against the game like it cheated against me.

Well, you could place fire pits on the mountain edge and hope they reach the corruption (the large ones have 16 tile 'cleansing range', if you will, even for corruption tiles below 'blocked' terrain). Otherwise, no choice but to dig around for a bit.

for me at least. The spawning is crazy, but the scaling is not that punishing.

What's odd is that it feels like the most effective way to play the game is to rush out campfires to cut off the corruption as fast as possible, getting the bare minimum to keep your villagers from dying and to have enough max influence to cast the construct building spell, so you can build them all yourself. You'll need to make liberal use of the dissolve spell and possibly god walls if your villagers keep trying to slowly walk over to an under construction campfire, one by one, each with a single log, making you seriously consider chucking them all into a cullis gate.

On the current map im working on, I was a little too slow and in autumn, year 1, I'm currently waiting for the 20 or so odd scattered tiles of corruption to finally become purified, with it taking multiple days for more to 'flip'.
