Expanding Walls in 2020
So, uh, how do you expand your maze in the current game? Because building fire pits behind it doesn't work anymore, 2 layers of walls and your influence is completely blocked off.

The only way right now for me is to open up a hole in the wall, to add more layers, but that can't be the intention, right? What am I missing?

I have to agree the mazing with the wall and it cutting off your influence just seems wrong. Not sure why it doesn't just cover an area like corruption resistance.
The developer has said the change was made to stop villagers from wandering too close to corruption and getting killed.

Mobs do not attack the fire pits, as the fire pits have the same agro value as the wall, I just add a fire pit every now and then. gives plenty of room to expand just do it early before the corruption gets too close.

Simple let us make an area allowed for villagers that can only be within your village's influence. Not make life hard for mazing which is one of the core gameplay elements

Do fire pits stop ghosts?

They don't stop ghosts and will go through fire pits. So if your building a maze place fire pits inside the maze at the edges of each turn, with this you still have a maze that both works for ghosts and normal mobs.

This is hard to answer in writing but I will try and get the concept through. Build the firepit far out and work your way into the start. You will have a few within the maze. The maze should be more than 1 layer thick as you get closer to the start so ghosts can't path through the fire pits.
