I've been dabbling with ways to "recover" it, but the ideas I've been tossing around require some side-content that doesn't exist yet. So it'll be quite some time before even considering the idea is possible.
Thanks for clearing that up. I think that it'll eventually be necessary to be able to recover lost regions to be able to achieve the current 10 day win condition, as a single loss makes it unwinnable, requiring perfectionism on all regions as is. But I could be wrong, I've only ever gotten to two villages so far.
Before, monsters used to spawn anywhere on the map outside of your village in increasing numbers and strength.
Now, the corruption exists. It's essentially an area where you hold no power, monsters spawn, drone monsters establish a rudimentary economy and build a corrupted buildings like graveyards and defense towers. It's better than before as you now know exactly where the enemies are coming from and you can even bring the fight to them, although I've yet to find a really effective strategy to do this.
as for how to fight them, use golem combobulators with their high corruption resistance and ballista towers + curtain walls to encroach upon the corruption while slowing them periodically with multiple earthquakes to destroy buildings producing their monsters
