Which kind of housing do you prefer?
I survived a year using only high quality housing, but I doubt the health regen and slightly faster sleep speed is worth the extra room you need.

Which one do you prefer and why?

Cheers

I mostly have 1 high capacity and 1 high quality house, the rest of the spots are filled with standard. The high capacity one is a nice boost at the start of the game to get nomads to spawn and at that stage it is easy enough to fill the full capacity of the house to not be penalised by the sleep penalty to much.

Though if you only fill a high capacity house half way then you are better of with a standard house. It all depends on how much building slots you have and the number of people you have to house.

But I do hope there are going to be a few more perks to the higher quality houses as currently the highest quality house seems indeed a bit useless, especially with the ranger stations.

I've been mainly using high capacity.

Does anyone know how long a normal sleep cycle takes?
I'm trying to figure out what the best housing is in the current build.

One thing I do know is that high quality has more cons than pros at the moment, namely more labour/material cost and more room needed for building vs some health regen, which is a non issue, and a slight reduction in sleep time.
Removing the happiness system took away their main value I guess.

The biggest con to me is actually the building cap. Anything that cuts down on the number of buildings helps in that regard.

Yes, building cap is a good excuse against high quality too.

Its worth noting that the bonus escalates with each upgrade. You get 10% less sleep time per upgrade on the high quality housing. Top tier gets 65% which is quite nice. Though the difference between standard and high quality isn't that large in terms of bonus. So its the better deal all around.

I guess you meant less sleep time on the high capacity houses.

The high quality houses really need some kind of extra bonus or a big buff in general to be worthwhile.
High capacity only seems worth it as Ydyp said at the beginning of the game, when you need a lot of room fast for some reason or maybe at the end of the game when all your jobs a filled up and you just need some room for new villagers before they migrate?

Which brings me to this question: Do villagers move to higher tier housing when there is room after villager dies or migrates?
Prometheus Oct 19, 2019 @ 2:13am
No I meant what I said. They take longer to recover in the high capacity, so its more sleep time.

You are right. I should stay away from basic math today :)

Feedback wise I don't think the difference between 40% and 65% is enough to make high quality worth it over standard. However high cap vs standard is a good trade as high cap is a lot more cap.
Tryclyde Oct 19, 2019 @ 2:58am
Agreed. Now I just need to know if villagers move when theres vacancy in a higher tier.

I found high quality housing to be more worthwhile before the happiness mechanic got removed. I used to build mostly high quality, but since the last update I've gone with standard and might switch to high capacity for the same reason.

I've won my last first year using ony standard housing and found no issue with building cap and build room needed where my previous game where I used high quality was more 'stressful' looking for good spots to build and increased workload on my builders.
Maybe I'll try high cap next game to see if I like it.

For the start of a village I go regular. If I'm running low on space money, time and resources then I would use the house that holds a lot of people. Otherwise I try to go luxury hoursing and I build it as tight as possible, but I don't know if you need anything by houses after a certain distance besides lighting rod and maybe some defenses if they are located in a dangerous area.
