MIDI music?
I am a big fan of this games soundtrack, and some of the tracks seem to sound like they could be converted to midi, is it possible for the Rise to Ruins team to release some .midi files to play around with?

Some games still do, mostly because it's highly manipulatable, and because it's old there are tons of tools out there to work with it.

As far as I know, Bibiki would have to completely remake the songs from scratch as midi files, and I have no idea at all how complicated that would be. I poked him to read this reply yesterday though. So you should get a more definitive answer from him soon. :)

Hi all!

MIDI is a language that allows to connect different electronic devices together. For example, it allows to connect a keyboard to a computer in the same lenguage. And answering Jost Amman, yeah, it's still used. People often confuse MIDI term with some sounds (hey, it sounds like MIDI!!), but the reality is that MIDI is a language. It has no sound.

The soundtrack of Rise to Ruins is made of house-made recordings of some instruments that I have and, on the other side, virtual instruments and synths. If I have just VSTs and synths and that stuff, I can export the MIDI file so you can experiment adding different instruments or editing the original file. If it has a mix of different recordings, I should make a music sheet so I can export it to MIDI.

Right now, since soundtrack is not finished, I prefer to continue working on that. Once it's released, I'm planning on releasing some tracks (like the main theme) in MIDI format and/or music sheet, so people can play it on piano or play whatever they want with it.

Hope it answered your questions. If you need anything else, just ask :)

Thanks!

Thanks for the explanation Bibiki! Since MIDI is a language I guess I should learn it so next time we can talk MIDI and nobody else will know lol :steammocking:

Just stumbled on this thread.
A quick bump to add that I'd love to have access to the sheets for some of the piano tracks (Farewell, Last Words, Sunset). They are beautiful.

I'll just say this about the only game I actually listen to the music. This and maybe DF. It is oddly funny and soothing at the same time.
