Extract game files

Bit of an odd question but is there a way to extract images and text, such as the map tiles and sprites, from the game files?

Not really.Everything is encoded, and if you don't have those code tables to convert it back to something readable... yea... good luck.
Maybe it will get easier with AI soon. Who knows.

I suggest heading over to the Darklands group at https://groups.io/g/darklands with questions like this. This is one of the things that members there have been working on doing since its inception in 1998, with lots of members eager to share their knowledge, various utilities and other resources that have been created, as well as a great wealth of info in the message archives that has been accumulated over the past quarter century plus. Note: accessing and reading the message board archive is free and open to everyone but posting to the group and viewing/downloading from the files archive requires registering with the group; however, this is also free.
