What does F9 Do?

I tried F9 to see if it would load a quick save (as many games do) and heard a loud ka-chunk sound, but I have no idea what, if anything, happened.

It's taking a screenshot, separate from the Steam version. The resulting PNG files are stored in the Steam games folder - on my system this is inside a general games folder on my D: drive as follows - D:\Games\Steam\SteamApps\common\Salt\Screenshots

I think the Ka-Chunk sound is supposed to be an old fashioned flash-powder flash going off as the picture is taken.
