Locating Cursed Treasure
The first cursed treasure I had to find using the colored thing, I said around for a while, and didn't find it. I then gave up and saled away, and it went from red all the way to black, so I knew exactly what the colors were, I thought maybe red wasn't actually the brightest. I eventually came hack from the jungle island and it iddn't show up still; I figured maybe it was inidicating the treasure hunter himself that gives the quests, but I found others along the way that gave me other cursed treasures to find...
I have gotten back to this treasure in the stack of treasures.it's surel;y at 0,0 which is land... when I go more then 3 east, 3 north or 3 south or 3 west, the colored orb starts to get paler.. is it possible that the treasure was picked to spawn where land is? Is this actually a state of no treasure to find that it just defaults to brgining me to 0,0 ? I would think if there was no treasure it should just be always black?

I haven't found the colour thing to be particularily usefull to actually retrieve the treasure chests, I use them more as decorations on my White Narwhal. What works best for me is the sounder, it's much like a sonar device, the faster and higher pitched the return ping is, the closer you are to being right over the treasure.

If you have the patience, mount a grabber and a sounder on the sailing raft and learn the characteristic ping sounds by sailing towards the basic treasure markers, the lower, wider rings that don't disappear until you are right in them. Try approaching very slowly, pinging the sounder constantly to get a sense of how the return changes as you approach, and what it sounds like when you're right on top of the sunken chest.

Once you have a handle on this, using the sounder to locate the rarer large sunken chests and the even rarer cursed sunken chests will be a lot easier. I have a grabber and a sounder mounted on my small sailboat which has the additional advantage of tracking in a nice straight line so long as the waves are not too large. This makes it easy to line up on the rarer and thinner markers at a distance, and once they dissappear, use the sounder to gauge when to drop sail and drift over the sweet spot to grab the chest.

The color thing leads you to a VERY tall indicator. But no, it itself is not useful for getting the treasure. I don't see this indicator for this one.
Yes you have to use the sounder once you get close enough to it because it disappears too.
I have my big ship and raft both equipped because I can paddle around in the raft with higher accuracy.
I've recovered about 5 cursed treasures already.... new ones add to the stack, so I could get a new one instead... just this first one that I get back to is bothering the completionist in me.

I'm not entirely sure how the cursed chest availability works, it should be that for every 10 sunken coins you give (after the first batch) to the Sea Treasure Hunter a new cursed chest becomes available, but whether you have to collect them from nearby where you turn in the coins, or do the locations follow you around is not clear. I know that shortly after the 1.9.5 update I'd turned in 50 coins and collected 2 cursed chests when I suffered the random teleportation bug and ended up about 50 units away from where the other 3 should have been, but did find 2 more in my new location. I didn't bother travelling back to see if the missing one was still available.

I never found the first one. I gave him coins and got more... I found a couple then found another treasure hunter that I gave some more coins and he gave me some further away thatwere more recent.

got those, then worked my way back and found another that was closer, but still couldn't find the original one... but I sailed to the extents, and as far as I can tell it should be at 0,0 which it cna't be.

Unfortunatly that game is gone now, I was playing one life, and when I died I was flailing around trying different technique and ended up clicking respawn instead of quit so the save went aweay.

I think there may be a bug with it. I definitely am getting the same thing. The color thing is pointing at 0,0, but there is no light indicator. This would have been the first, as I never gave him more coins.
