How do I get into the lower deck on my old pirate ship

I got the boat today after repairing it. There is a lock on the hatch which connects below. How do I break the lock!!!

Afaik the only boats with lower decks are the Red/Blue/Black/Royal Maidens. Then you will probably want to know how to close the hatch.

Both the Red and Blue Maidens are obtainable fairly quickly. The Black and Royal may take some time. The best ones are the Pardon Pusher and the White Narwhal although these don't have lower decks.

I'd argue that any of the Maiden ships can be obtained quickly depending on seed/luck. I am currently still trying to find that one blasted merchant who gives that quest. And the red maiden plans seem to be a very rare drop from the rarely spawning Shipwrights on Battlemaster settlements, to say nothing of the resource requirements. If you focus on just collecting pirate tokens, I think that the royal/black maidens would actually be the fastest to obtain.
Personally though, between the two, I'd say go with the Black Maiden. The Royal is kind of a awkward shade of purple. And regarding want to close the hatch to the lower deck, that is fairly accurate. I've developed a habit of just leaping over the hatch to reach the sail, but it is still a small annoyance.

Forty tokens per ship? I had both the Red and Blue ages before I could get just one of the Black/Royal. Actually I think I also had the Pardon Pusher too.

Hopefully I've got them all now. Four Maidens, two Skimmy's, Pardon Pusher, White Narwhal, red Pirate, black Pirate, sail boat and raft.

Likewise, I got close to 40 tokens before I even saw the red maiden plans drop, and I have yet to find that accursed merchant for the blue maiden quest. Besides the Blue Maiden though, I think the only one I'm missing is the jungle skimmy.
