WASTED

The ending....wat. (spoilers)
So I finally beat the game (first!(?)), but the ending was really weird tbh. I feel like the 80s where are they now is fitting and all, but wtf about the muligan and the alistar IV? Wasn't that like the whole catalyst for making the skullie waster anarchy or the SOB straight edge society? The whole getting frozen thing kind of seems like a non sequitur and CA-0 seemed like a total set up for a final boss like a boozed up zombie alistar or some other awesome random ♥♥♥♥. Im also really disapointed the game bascially only has two bosses. Can you explain and are you planning on changing it at all?

There's actually 3 bosses -- Master Y and Seng Sung can be fought if your conversations with them don't go well.

(More spoilers below, don't read until you've finished the game I guess)

The basic overview of the plot is that:

The Mulligan was Alistair's secret project, which the Head Skellie is sure is some sort of supernuclear weapon. His goals with the New Skeleton Army are to ensure that Booze is freely available around the Western Wastes, so when the S.O.B. come in and invade the Western Wastes, Alistair sets the wheels in motion to find the Mulligan in order to use it against the S.O.B. Meanwhile, the S.O.B. have their own agenda with the Cure.

Regarding CA--0:

Originally, there was indeed going to be a battle with a mutant Alistair, but I ran out of time. It's something that can definitely be added as post release content though since I agree that the game could've used a nice endboss. Still, not even the Fallout games really do end-bosses, because generally, bosses are kinda hard to make fun in first person shooters.

As for frozen thing:

Basically, it's just the vehicle by which I can explain the accelerated passage of time. The game's ending is a lot like the endings in the Fallout games, and changes depending on what decisions you made with your house upgrades, and at certain points in the game. It's all ultimately just a big jokey setup for the Waster waking up in a post-apocalyptic 90's though.

Hopefully I answered some of your questions. I'm trying to be intentionally vague about stuff because I don't want to explain everything outright. There are some silly flourishes that you might've missed that might've helped you understand the plot a bit more, but I don't want to spell it out, since wrangling it out is part of the fun of it.

Ah I played CA-0 a few more times and managed to rocket jump my way into the secret chamber and found out how epic of a killing machine the mulligan is (lol).

Still though, even if its just a simplistic one I think a boss at the end is appropriate, it was definitely too anticlimatic without one.

Yeah, I totally agree. For what it's worth, here's how that area was written up in the Game Design Document we wrote for the game:

"...However, the doors of this Cooler had never opened in the first place, leaving Alistair to be stuck outside of its doors as a giant, irradiated mutant. Upon destroying Alistair, the player will gain access to the Cooler..." It would totally work to add him post release, maybe an NPC could say that they found him wandering around somewhere in the Western Wastes!

Ultimately, It really, really did just come down to time though, the game was supposed to have been released in something like August of last year, and it was delayed until now. Even then, I barely squeeked CA-0 into the game like two weeks before launch, and the Fallout style ending slides just one week from launch. To say I probably kept Adult Swim's QA teams busy would be an incredible undersatement.

Still, I hope the ending was somewhat okay. I do get that there's a lot of info dumping near the end, but I tried to wrap up as many loose ends as possible. And anyways who WOULDN'T want to play a 90's WASTED game where people use pogs as money, right???

Suggestions*** not sure where to submit those that you will see them so hopefully this short feedback finds you well!

So the ending was great actually and totally unexpected as I thought there was another cooler to deal with; that said it did leave you with the feeling of 'oh is that it.. it can't be over yet i have so much more to do..' what i mean is I still have more booze to collect and so being able to play it a second time with harder difficulty + mixing enemies up in the coolers would be pretty awesome.

I am not sure what plans you have for the future of the game but I believe this is a game that you can replay a couple times over with the same character and have a blast.

What I mean is:
Add a few more decisions, a few more house upgrades to choose from add a scaling difficulty with every time you awaken from a CA-0 cooler and with that add a lot new weapons through the coolers maybe a few extra coolers in there with a mix of the old enemies or new + old enemies.

From what I can tell the way you have programmed it there is a huge flexibility with adding new coolers and with those new coolers new enemies/armors/weapons/mods/hair styles/booze/ some new things?!

let me know if you would like to hear more of my ideas in detail.

Thanks for the great game hope it is selling well as it deserves every penny coming in! I absolutely loved the game and hope you have more plans to expand.

Take care
sincerely,
60+ hours of great gameplay

I came here to search for this very sort of thread as I have myself just finished the game. I love the game, and the ending in CA-0 was a letdown .. but you have explained why that is the case so no biggy, I guess.

I was all excited for another run through a cooler full of levels but just walked straight into a chamber. Luckily I had some Blue Ox on me so managed to make it to the back room ...

My suggestions would probably need a whole DLC/Expansion to accomodate them as basically I just want more stuff:

1) More vendors who can be setup at your own home area - make it so the outer fence expands outwards and opens up a bit more of the wasteland around it.

2) More, bigger hubs. Ony was cool, but a few variations would be cool. A deserted town, a petrol station, a mall, etc etc

3) More Coolers, dur.

Make it bigger. LOTS bigger.

Yep, 61 hours here. Still going to play it some more. Might do a whole new run to try out other home expansions, etc.

Something I've been wondering about the ending, or at least the ending that I got on my first playthrough. So the first time I stepped into CA-0, I had no idea that I was supposed to go past the cryo chamber and get the Mulligan. I did so after the credits, which didn't seem to change anything. Was I supposed to get some sort of dialogue or cutscene? What about the head skellie? I didn't see him at all after siding with him in CA-5. Did I miss something, or was that how it was meant to happen?

SPOILER***
Yep he went on to dominate the world. He was in the cut scene with the rest with him being that after you saved him he kept on puppeteering the politics of the new world being head of the skellies hiding in the shadows or something like that

yep all very cool stuff
I am okey with spending another even 20$ on a nice expansion like that now that I know how epic the game is

***oh and take the cap on stats off with the new expansion. Say i am capped at 10 base stats from booze let the armor/skills I have go over 10. so make a base 10 be able to go to 13 with a +3 hat

currently i have 10 hit with armor and stats but i have a +8 hit booze skill if full hp sitting around can't use it because its at 10 max.
I really like how you recreated the fallout ending, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ great. Just beat it myself and I was about to have a conniption because i also thought you'd do the fallout ending of not letting you keep going , but thank goodness i was wrong.

Seriously though this game is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ great. I wish I could give you more money somehow than the paultry sum I paid to get into this game.

If he promises to make expansions/DLC, let's all group together and throw money at him.

this is one of my favorite steam games, but i did feel like the end was a bit lacking

if some extra content came out as a DLC i would buy it, if it was an update but more was in a DLC, buy it. this is one of my favorite games, right up there with Starward Rogue, Terraria, and a couple other games
