Speeding up Dosbox by default
So to get past the long intro you speed up the cycles in dosbox to 50,000. Thats fine. I would like to make dosbox default to 50,000 cycles on launch. I looked up the wiki, and is says you can do this in the conf file. The wiki suggests this will be stored at Users\{username}\AppData\Local\DOSBox\dosbox-{version}.conf.

I cannot locate this file. Can anyone shed any light on this issue? Is it even possible?

Cheers!

Hi. If you open a folder and click on "view" on the top, there should be on show a checkable option called "show hidden items" or something like that. Check that. Appdata is by default hidden.

The location of the configuration file you mentioned is for a standalone installation of DOSBox. Distribution platforms like Steam and GOG have their own directory trees where these files would be located. Also, each game would have its own .conf files, rather than sharing a global config file. Infact, each game has it's own, dedicated copy of DOSBox. Here's where the files you're looking are located (on Win10) under a Steam install:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Sid Meier's Colonization\dosbox_windows\dosbox_smcolonization.conf"

GOG installs their files in a more OS-version agnostic location:

"C:\GOG Games\Colonization\dosboxCOL.conf"

Hope that helps. Cheers!

Yes! That's it! No more pressing f12 80 times at the start of the game! Legend!
