F16 Multirole + Windows 10 + SYS Dump Error
Hi guys, I did not find so much information about the system dump error I am getting when trying to start F16 in WIndows 10.

Are there any known fixes yet?

The Sys file says:
Dump Information = "Can't load "c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\f-16 multirole fighter\f16.map""

I googled and couldnt find relevant information towards this one.

What I did so far is trying to start the game with "older" versions of windows (Vista, 7, 8 , XP Service Pack 2, 3). I have also DirectPlay activated via Windows Features.

I am currently having Windnos 10 64-bit, Intel HD 5500

I searched f16.map but have no clue whats that. Any lead is highly appreciated.

It looks like you don't have that file. Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game?

Hi, thanks for your reply! Yes I did and it leads to the same mistake. Do you think it would work if someone else sends me his f16.map file and I insert it in my folder?

I have found the F16 Exe on the Nova Logic Forum so I am downloading that and trying to copy paste or something. Otherwise I play outside of Steam. I will keep this updated in case anyone else will have the same issue at some point.

So I downloaded F16 from the Nova Logic Server and installed it - but I am still getting the same error with missing f16.map...

try deleting the game folder manually and then installing the game/ verifying the files hope this helps it works on other video games on steam I don't see any reason why it shouldn't on this one

I am facing the exact same problem and have tried all the different older versions in compatibility mode. No luck. Did you get any luck @boy?

Thanks for all the answers. Unfortunately, I just swapped to my work laptop and there it worked, as I could not find any way around it. Best of luck and if you manage to find a solution, feel free to let me know for future reference :)

The game was made in 1998 for WIN98. Some games maybe unable to correctly switch out of very high graphics resolutions settings of your desktop to the low resolution setting for the game. Have to remember, some of these OLDER games graphics abilities are anywhere from 600x480 to 1024x768. Because it was thought that range will never change. Being 1024x768 being the highest settings. Some other older games for some reason can reconize higher resolutions and be able to do the switch.

In this case, the bink player of the game start is 640x480. And this maybe one of the reasons to why the game is not starting. It can't switch out from 1920x1080 and up, back to 640x480. And along with this, older games pending on which, the video card will be card specific. This means it was made to work best only on one type, but able to compromise to something lessor. And will not have the best look pending on what that is.

Larger output CPU's and any memeory including video memory exceeding the range of a 32bit system(I think it is like 64mb to 500mb, something like this) will cause it to not be able to read. But will still work anyway, I know that part doesn't make sense, but when playing older games, they tend to make claims such as, "not enough memory" even tho your pushing 32Gigs and it says no GPU or can not read it even tho you have the top of the line card pushing 8gigs. Older games are not updated by the developers in this, and the only changes are what they think is needed to make it work on a newer OS. Since WIN7 is still online, WIN7 is also able to run this game, even from the disk install. I know cause I have it.

Since every system and PC is different, my suggestion is first try the compatibility mode, then adjust the desktop settings. Due to some older games I have, my setting are at 1600x900. And yes, this game is running in WIN10..

I tried whatever it was possible for me (both for this game and for its twin Mig 29 fulcrum):
1. OS compatibility (windows 8 / windows 7 / XP / whatever)
2. desktop resolution and colors
3. installing glide.

Whatever I try I always get the same result: file dumped and nothing more

Did anyone find any solution for this problem?

Hi there, another issue with some older games is if your Windows sound settings are too high.
You could try setting sounds in Windows to 16 bit, 44 KHz.
