I'm not going to generalize all females but it's safe to say that most females want to look pretty.
These outfits don't look so good on us because, like the original poster said, there were no changes made to the armor models (or animations for that matter) to match the female form.
Having our female characters run around with male animations is weird too. We look like wannabe cavemen when we run around with our weapons and shields out.
Fun fact: Due to the complexity of that task we are the only game I know which is fully customizable in terms of armors and have more than 250 choices to pick (and growing!).
