Worms W.M.D. maps and themes
Okay, so let's talk maps & themes and perhaps gather ideas for what we at least would like to see patched in the game after lauch.

My current information/assumption what will be in the game from day one:

Single Player maps will be hand-drawn.

Multiplayer maps can be either:

  • generated (pieced together from asset pieces to create a hand-drawn look)
    - You can chose from 6 different themes
    - You can select the map type (e.g. "Multiple Islands")
    - You can select a map size
    - You can change the chance of buildings
    - You can let the game generate the level in a random shape
    - You can enter a 14-digit seed code that tells the game what shape to create

  • Imported from a .png image file
    - this will be in the game from day 1


    Scheme settings regarding the maps:

  • You can set the maps to be indestructable

  • You can set the amount of objects like Mines, Anti-Tank Mines, Oil Drums, Sentry Guns, Mounted Guns, Vehicles and (random) Magnets. (Not by exact number but in catergories like "None" or "Few")

  • You can set up the Mine Fuse Time and if there will be Dud Mines.


    The current six map themes are:

  • Rainforest

  • Downtown

  • Frontier

  • Motherland

  • Countryside

  • Orient


    I have some open question and/or wishes for updates.
    Maybe you agree (?):

  • The ability to set a level border *
    (Borders all around as well as borders only at the top.)

  • The ability to set the water height *

  • We assume that Team17 will release more themes later, but did they actually confirm it, that it's on their to-do-list?

  • What is the maximum size of custom, image-imported maps? Big maps (also vertically) would be great.

  • Are there different water colours? (Based on the level theme.)

  • Can you select the theme for image-imported levels, to influence the background and music?

  • Will there be particles in the background that give you an extra indicator of the wind direction and strenght? (e.g. leaves)

  • is it possible to play the 100% hand-drawn levels from the Single Player in Multi Player matches?

  • Will you be able to change the detail of the level background for your personal view? (e.g. totally black background)

  • Can the "Mine Fuse Time" be set to "0" or "random"?

  • Will there be an option to save generated levels on your pc and load them, so you don't have to enter the exact same seed and settings in the generator to play a certain level again?

  • Can you perhaps save seed codes to a sort of favorite-list, so you don't have to write down 14 digits when you found a seed that you like to use again?

  • Is it possible to select settings for the wind? (Like "No Wind", 'Mild Wind', "Extreme Wind", "Wind Changes Every Turn" or "Wind Changes Randomly".)

  • Can the game generate levels for the "Team17" scheme?

  • Can you make the setting that the game will place girders on a generated or imported map?

  • Will there be an option to make the game place holes (with little girders inside) in the maps? (For schemes like "Mole Shooppa")


    * = for example, important for the "Proper" scheme


    For some of those question, I already know/think that the answer currently has to be "no".

    For some I'm not sure.

    But please notice that at least my personal opinon is, that everything from above that has to be answerd with a "no" should be added to the to-do-list for post-launch updates. :)
